Dana to Close Four U.S., Canada Plants
    AP
TOLEDO, Ohio (Dec. 12) - Dana Corp. will close two plants in Canada and one each in Missouri and Indiana, eliminating 440 jobs, the auto parts maker announced Tuesday.

Four other plants, expected to close within the next two years, will be announced sometime next year, said Dana Chief Executive Michael Burns.

The four plants identified are in Syracuse, Indiana; Cape Girardeau, Missouri; and Guelph and Thorold, Ontario.

Dana, which filed for bankruptcy protection in March, announced last month that it would close eight of its 66 plants. Closing the plants, eliminating health benefits and reducing other labor costs should save between $405 million (euro306 million) and $540 million (euro408 million) each year, the company said.

The Indiana plant has about 65 workers and will close next September. The Missouri plant has about 200 workers and will close in June 2008. Both make axle parts.

Work from the two factories will be moved to Mexico.

Dana, which sells brakes, axles and other parts to most major automakers, has said in its bankruptcy filing that rising energy costs were driving up production costs and hurting demand for its customers' products.

I think it really sucks that they are taking all these jobs away from Americans to give it to a foreign country. I think it's strange that these companies are all reporting huge loses and are taking work else where. I think our executive branch of the government should evaluate all of this. Just not fair to see hard working Americans loose their jobs to foreign countries with cheaper labor.

Yes but the pay offs and criminals in office, all partys have them, dont mind becuse they are getting their pockets lines while America and what it stands for is getting fleeced. Also you dont see the CEO's living and lower on the hog nope only high on the hog they cant or dont want to make a lifestyle or economic change to keep food on our countrys tables and keep our economy alfoat.Hey we might want to swap with the mexicans let them come here, while the jobs go there, and lets leave here with the jobs get a hotter climate and better tans also think of all the weight you could lose just drinking the water now thats a great diet I'm gonna call it the South of the Border diet to rival that of the LA and South Beach.

Why are all Dodge trucks are built in Mexico? They just had a recall because the lazy Mexicans couldn't be bothered to put enough grease in the front wheel bearings.

What we need is an import tariff system like the old days, and a single-payer health-care system funded by the government. When the car companies can stop having to pay out all these health-care payments, we will get a lot of jobs back we've lost.

Oh and for you guys who buy Japanese vehicles, they won't allow our vehicles to be sold there. And yes, Honda, Toyota etc have built plants here, but whatever profits they make are sent back to Japan.

We have sabotaged our own auto industry.

That is for sure. Unfortunatly the big 3 brought it onto themselves back in the day when they had nothing to compete with the imports. Even today I'm a chevy guy (tattooed) but I'd never buy a chevy car. Quality sucks, service sucks. I had a jetta and it was real nice, service was good too.

Now everyone is losing jobs, locally nelon castings is closing this summer. They were known as affinia, Built rotors. Used to be into rotors, drums, pads. Shutin her down that's it that's all. Build em in china instead since they can get people to work for pennies. Losing all the decent payin jobs. Shortly we will all be 3rd world countries. http://www.earthtimes.org/articles/show/news_press_release,83053.shtml
