Do they? NO. Should they? HELL YES! I think you should have to have formal training before ever being aloud to tow a vehicle. Ever watched a boat ramp? rotfl All them numb nuts that went out and bought new boats over the winter CAN NOT back them.:doah: Great show to watch, as long as you aren't behind them in line.
I agree you should have to be licenesed to pull a camper or what ever. I also think everything that tows or is towed should have to be run through the test lanes. Keep some of the junk off the roads (see the "this is good" thread). On the whole boat ramp thing that is always a joke. I could tell so many funny experiances from there. Some not even from lack of backing experiance but lack of respect to other boaters.
I have a funny story to tell about this. I have been backing trailers since I could drive (my dad would always let me do it - he is a good coach). We were in Estes Park, CO, and we pulled into this campground that was supposed to be a loop. They had had lot's of rain early in the summer, and the back half of the loop was washed out. The owner asked if I had 4wd - I did not. She said I would have to start up the loop, and then back up the wrong way on the loop to get to my site. I did just that, and put it into my spot, exactly where I wanted it the first try (even I was impressed). Later, the neighbor came over and informed that I had spoiled their fun for the afternoon. They had been in the office when I came in, and knew where I was to park, and had setup chairs to watch me try and try and try to park my trailer. I felt good after that.
I parked the 5th wheel at a local campground for the month of October, 2 years ago. I gave the family a place to go for the weekend, just to relax. Well after the first weekend, I noticed that the (seasonal) sites all had lawn chairs out at the end of the site. Some even had binoculars hanging on the chairs. Every Friday and Saturday afternoon they would be out there watching the new arrivals. I guess that was better than bingo at the rec. hall. rotfl
every RV over 20' should require a class a CDL, just getting half the idiots to pass the test would be amazing. i took my class A cdl test with a 30' long truck with a school bus hooked behind it as a bumerpull trailer. i still managed to pass the driving and manuevering test.
Nevada requires a J endorsment for any trailer rated over 10k lbs. This involves a written as well as driving test. After passing this and seeing what they ask, I think they should require it for any trailer.
waytogoI fully agree as an ex class a cdl instructor I also fully believe that some people should never be aloud a lisence period:stir:
