Just wanted to say "HellO"imp: I just bought my first Dodge,Also first Cummins... Its a 2006 2500 SLT 4x4 QC,SB,5.9L HO CTD. 6 spd manual tranny,3:73 axle ratio...It has 16,730 miles.Very good condition. The Used Truck dealer I got it from had it serviced. He said he put Shell Rottella 15w40 in it?? He doesn't know what had been used in the past!!! But I have heard that isn't a good brand to use in this cummins? What do y'all think? I'll be pulling a 31' TT GVW.8,200 lbs,(loaded).(2). What is a good RPM to run this engine at??? I just want to made sure I'm using the best, as I plan to keep this trk for a long time... Any advice will be greatly welcomed. I live in SC. THANKS!!! JB
AMSOIL is a Group IV synthetic, which is a higher grade base stock than Group III synthetics like Mobil, Shell, Castrol, etc. That's what I recommend and use in all my engines. -Chuck
"Shell Rotella not good to use in the cummins". Far from the truth! I wouldn't use anything else. Many folks using Rotella in the cummins.
just met a guy today in TOOMEY STARKS, LA at the LOVES truck stop and no b.s. 1,188,000 miles on his 1997 dodge cummins drw...he works for VENTURE out of ALVIN, TX, said he had overhaul the motor at exactly 1,000,000 miles started running very rough...he used ROTELLA every 5000 miles...pretty amazing for someone that pulls a heavy gooseneck everyday...
Welcome to TR I sugest some Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme for your next oil change and get a by pass oil filter set up sold from many of the vendors here. It reduces contaminates in the oil and extends the oils service life as well as the life of your Cummins.
