I've just bought an '05 Ram 1500. I know it's not what you'd class as a tow rig really but I would still appreciate some unbiassed advice. I've been looking at the posts on dodgetalk.com and dodgeforum.com and it seems that nearly everone has had 'small' problems with their trucks. Stuff like stalling, fluctuating idle, weird shifting. They usually take it to a dealer, get the computer 'flashed' and usually all is well again for a while. My worry is that over here (Engalnd) I can't just go to a dealer...there ain't none! So my question is, are these the unlucky minority I've been reading about? Or are there lots of problems with these trucks? Thanks.
Pick any vehicle, find a bulletin board for it and you're going to find problems. Honestly, I'd say that what you're reading accounts for less than 10% (if not smaller) of the drivers out there. Can you end up being one of the 'unlucky' recipients of a vehicle, yes. Would I worry about it myself, no.
I wouldn't worry about it. Like stated above, people voice their problems with their vehicles 10 times the amount that people say good stuff about it. And, the people that are having problems are much more likely to get into a forum and voice it than people that don't have problems. Is everything fine with it right now? If it is than I wouldn't worry about it. If something comes up than you'll figure it out at that point.
My wife has a 05 1500 with the 4.7 in it. After a few thousand miles it started stalling, low idle, and missing at idle. Engine light never came on. We took it to the dealership twice and they never found anything. Good news it only did it for a month or two and it quit doing it The truck now has 14,000 miles on it and runs great.
Well that's quite reassuring anyway, thanks guys! The truck is still on the boat coming over here. It drove fine when I had a test drive at the dealership. At least everyone didn't reply with 'OMG you bought a what?!!!':doah:
I thought the same thing when I was headed to the dealership to buy my Dodge. Havent regretted the brand change since!
