Well, there are a lot of variables to that question. The most important thing is what you plan on doing with the truck and what you want out of it. Are you looking to give the truck just a little bit more punch for pulling a heavy trailer? If so you'd want a smaller power level box or programmer that is not going to want to bring up the exhaust temperature to fast and hard, if you keep the engine completely stock.

Are you looking for more power for racing or acceleration while empty? Then you could look at some slightly more aggressive boxes and programmers that will have a harder time pulling your exhaust temp up too fast without a trailer.

Then there are the really big boxes that are designed to work with modified transmissions and almost require larger turbos and injectors to be able to use larger power outputs.

Like I said, a big thing is what brand truck you have with what motor and what year.

With my truck, I have only done some moderate mods. I'm not too interested in 'bombing' my truck to 500 horses or whatever... I just want some extra passing power. For my truck, I just got an 'exhaust', an intake kit, and a chip.

With the exhaust, I think it's kinda dumb to spend hundreds of dollars on a muffler and pipes. Since the new Dodges come stock w/ 4" pipes, I decided to go the cheap route. I went to the local muffler shop and had them cut out the muffler and install an empty pipe in its place (I left the cat alone so it will still be emissions legal). Some would think this is too loud but I love it. That was $100 and I just went today and got a 4"x18" chrome turndown put on the end for $50.

2nd, I bought an AIRAID intake kit. The one I bought came w/ the re-usable filter and the nice intake tube for improved flow. I ordered the kit off of www.shopdiesel.com for $299 (now its $259 :doah:).

Lastly, I bought an Edge Juice w/ Attitude Monitor. This is the last performance part you will ever need because of the huge difference it makes in power. I was skeptical before I installed it but the first time I got on the freeway w/ the chip, I was amazed at the difference in power (and that was only in level 3/5 :pimp: ). The install was much easier then I thought it would be... there are 5 different connectors that you connect to the stock harnesses, the power and ground lines, the connection to the in-cab monitor, and the egt probe. The egt probe is the only part that took me some time because I didn't have a pipe tap on hand but I got it done the next day. I got the Juice and Attitude Monitorfor $600 from Rolling Big Power (www.rollingbigpower.com) because someone I know has a connection there.

So there ya go... $1000 later and my truck runs a 15.4 in the 1/4 mile which is way better then any stock ricer you may encounter rotfl

We need to know what brand truck you have, it's year, engine size, and transmission. Diesel performance is not a broad thing between all makes and models. Some companies make great parts for one particular truck but make junk for something else. It all depends on the truck.

Although Banks, IMHO, is generally junk. They way over advertise so they are the most popular with their name and make it easy for the consumer with their large, and expensive kits. Banks comes up with majic HP in their adds.

I like Edge for the Boxes myself.

I am thinking you have a Ford....

don't have the truck yet but looking at 99-02 f-250's 7.3, auto probally a 4R100 but don't really know for sure since don't have the truck yet

as far as banks goes that was the kinda stuff i was wondering about all i have heard is good but haven't really hearn much from people that have it

i like the idea of selectable powerlevels like with their 6 gun
i am looking for some serious power but it will be my daily driver as well so fuel economy is a plus which is why the selectable ones were appealing
will be used for towing my k5 as well

IMO, the best thing going for the powerstroke, 7.3, is to have jody make you a 6 pos chip. Your truck will be singing to the tune of approx 22mpg on the highway unloaded at 70 mph!!! And the tow settings are awsome.

Check out this web site for more details.

I have been very happy with my Edge/Attitude combo. Very smooth, nice integration with the pyro and trans, can't imagine anything to improve really. Just wish I could get off my but and get the ATS tranny upgrade so I can use the top power settings... :D
