Got a chance to pick up a 99' ctd dodge dually fwd with 15100 miles. It's at a dealer and really can't tell if it has been abused, (undeneath that is) as it has been painted black. Body has some noticable scratches (minor). Interior is clean. The d80 rear has a track loc (or power loc). Dealer wants $16000.
Seems like a good price but not from a dealer. any thoughts? Oh I forgot, it is an automatic, has a tow hitch and 7 pin conecter.
    thanks,
    Joe

Sounds like a good truck. THe dealerships almost always paint the undercarraige so it looks new.

16K is about right, and after a little hagling I would think 14-14.5K would be a decent price for a dealership truck.

    Nada Or Kelly Book

I Would Compare The Book Price To What They Are Asking.. Some Of The Dealers Use The Kelly Book For Trade In Because They List A Lesser Price Then Nada..
Then Compare That To What They Are Asking...then Deal From There....

Blue book shows up at $17080. If dealer told I could have it for 16000, I'll have to take a closer look at it and run the vin number to make sure its a local. I'll hit him with 15000 and see what happens if I go this route.
    Thanks'

Hmm, if the bluebook is 17K then maybe the dealership is trying to get rid of it and just lowered it down to skip the hagling.

Could this be a different dealership that isn't a DOdge dealer? A lot of the times a dealership will be pretty quick to get rid of other brands. Maybe it's the mileage? A lot of people don't relize that 150K isn't much for a diesel, it's amazing how many people think there is no difference between a gas and diesel engine besides the sound and one is better for "towing."

    Keep us informed!waytogo

My thoughts exactly. Its not from a dodge dealer, but from an all around truck dealer. They have all makes. Did'nt make by today, tomorrow I'll try to make it.
On a side note: Went to look at a 74 2wd slammed blazer. Needs work, but the price is right.
    Thanks for the replys,
    Joe

Joe, I am a dealer and if you'll give me all the info about the truck ( ext cab or reg cab, St,Laramie SLT or sport ect.) I can give you the price they're going for at dealer auctions. You can't go by the "bluebook" prices as they can be as much as 30% off! This late in the year dealers arre looking to get rid of inventory cause on Jan 1 there's a big price drop and that 99 will be hard for most folks to get a loan for since it will be 7 yrs old on Jan 1.

RonJ- The truck is a 99 dodge dually, ctd, 4wd, extended cab with 151000 miles.
    Automatic AC
Power steering AM/FM stereo Bed liner
Power windows CD player Tow package
Power door locks Dual front air bags
    Tilt wheel ABS (4 wheel)
    Cruise control Power seat

Body and paint- good to very good
    Interior-cloth, nice clean condition
    Tires- 75%
D80 rear has some kind of power lock???

Thats all I can think of right now. Let me know what you think.
Again, didn't get by there today as I had no wheels. One our trucks was in for service and had to loan my truck out.
    Thanks RonJ,
    Joe

Ps; If this dealer got the truck at a auction, what are chances of picking this truck for much less?
    Thanks

I'm no dealer, but I don't think thats likely. From what I know, most of the trucks come from auction that are at an used only dealership. My truck was an auction truck and so was my dad's. We didn't really get deals. I know a small time class 8 truck dealer and he gets all of his trucks from auction.

RJF's right, where he got the truck makes no difference in price.

If the truck is a Laramie SLT auction price is around $12-$13,000

    Sport would be $10-$11,000

This would be what he paid to pick it up at auction. He does have to make money for cleaning it up and servicing it and cover his overhead expences. If it's the Laramie SLT it's not a bad deal but you may want to try brining him down closer to $15,000. If it the Sport it's a bit overpriced. But you have to remember that local demand plays a big role in price specialy in the truck market.

How is it that the Sport is going for less? Doesn't it usually contain everything the SLT laramie does but with the better headlamps and more attractive styling? That doesn't make sence to me. I've always gathered the Sports were more sout after.
