I only get to use my 4wd a couple times during a winter season. And it hardly ever rains enough around here to justify having it. My 2wd truck was always able to do the same type of work my 'burb does in mud and hunting muck.

The only time I've REALLY needed 4wd was after I got through playing one afternoon trying to pull a stump and broke the spiders in my rear end. Ended up having to tow a 9k backhoe back into town in front-wheel only. Still only drove with the open front wheel, but I wouldn't have been able to go anywhere had I not had the option. And that alone woulda cost me $300 by not having the tractor back on time.

I feel a whole lot better taking the kids out camping and wheeling in it as well. I still manage to find a reason to switch to 4lo at least twice a month just for giggles.

Here in southern california, I rarely have a need for 4x4. However, I have had certain occasions where i was messin around in the dirt that it came in handy. Also it's fun to do 4 wheel burnouts in the rain :D

You may put a couple hundred miles of 4wd use onn your truck when you head to Utah. When I went there a couple of years ago it was snowing from Barstow all the way there.

Hmm, thought I already replied to this one.

Anyway, mine has well over 1000 miles of 4x4, most of that in one trip across the midwest in what was hailed as "The worst snow storm the midwest has seen in over 30 years..." No 2WDs were on that interstate with me, no front wheel drives, and there were many 2 legged 4x4s in the ditch and stuck on on-ramps that couldn't even get to the interstate. That's what happens when you get a few hours of freezing rain, followed by 20+ hours of snow.

I use my 4wd when ever I am plowing. I also like to use it to go ice fishing. Also like to use it whenever I can find a trail. A few times a month when not plowing!

Possible.......... I bet I only use 4WD 8-10 times per year and sometimes that's not necessary, just convenient. If I did a little more canyon traveling (highway or not), I'd not have a rig without it, though. I bought the truck for long term and without knowing EXACTLY what I'll be doing for the next 5-12 years, I thought 4WD a necessity (and it's hard to find one around here that isn't 4x4).

I use 4 wheel drive when we get to the race track pulling my freinds 28' enclosed trailer. They always seem to water the pit area to keep the dust down just before we get to the track. That turns the pit road into just a slopy meas.
