Hi! Steve here. Just recently found this site after seeing an ad for it in Diesel Power. I am looking forward to getting back home to drive my CTD. Oh, and seeing my family! I am assigned to an Army truck company, and we convoy everything from beans to bullets all over Iraq. Makes for an interesting time. But at least I still get to drive a diesel down the road. We drive Freightliner M915A3 tractors and trailers and uparmored Hummers. Detroit Series 60's, unlike the new Cummins powered M915A4. Anyway, gotta go. Thought I'd say hi!
Hi steve Hi Steve! Welcome to the forums. Hope to see ya back in the USA soon and thanks for serving our great country!waytogo
Hi Steve Gotta love those 60 series . good to see you on the site . stay safe and God bless . Thanks for all you and your friends do.
Are you in the army, or just assigned to their unit? Do they still use the AM General M923-932A2's? The 5 Tons with CTIS. Those have a 12 Valve 8.3 Cummins you can play around with:stir: .
I am Air Force Security Forces. We got grabbed up by the Army to do gun truck escorts, and in the end, ended up trained on the 915 and 5 tons for driving as well. Yeah, the 5t's have 8.3's. We don't use them for line haul convoys, too long distance. We literally run from Kuwait all the way to the border of Turkey and everywhere in between. All we use are the M1114's (armored Humvee gun platform) and the 915's (armored Freightliner daycabs). We escort civilian contracted Mercedes and Scania tractor trailers. Sometimes as many as 35 trucks in our convoys. Makes life interesting because we make a nice, slow moving target for the insurgents. -Steve
Hey Steve, Just got back from Iraq myself. I was driving the new Osh-Kosh MTVR. That thing is bad. Big CAT V8. Wish you the best and hurry home !
