Just installed air bags on my chevy. Whats a good PSI to to tow with and to drive empty? And now for the dumb Question..... do you air up before you hook up trailer or after....it would seem PSI would go up even more if u aired up after.

I have Ride Rites on my Ram. I use enough pressure to keep the loaded truck level. For me, with my Lance slide-in camper and boat in tow, that amounts to 50 psi on my rig, obviously your truck and load will be different. Level works well for me. Unloaded I keep about 5-10 psi in the bags.

No less than 5 psi empty, and loaded I liked to keep the truck slightly above level (in the rear). Just a prefference thing.

Hey There, If ya air them after hook=up, you won't have crank up the trailer to new heights! Cranking up a loaded trailer in this heat sure does suck. Look under the rear fender and notice the distance between the overloads and springs. Try to air up after loading to about the same distance that you had before. After that, just play around to find what suits you. I like mine a little firmer so when i hit rough roads, I am not wandering all over the highway!!!! I also over-inflate, as ya can let air out pretty easy. You will really like the air bags, smooth ride and proper headlight adjustment inder those heavy loads!!!

air bags are one of the greatest mods i have done on my dodge.

i use them for more than weight capacity. i use them to help un hooking and hooking the GN up. i air them up to 100psi, lower the jacks on the trailer, then drop them to 5psi and un hook the trailer.

this makes it MUCH easier on my shoulders when it comes to the jacks.

as for what PSI to run when towing... well, i found MY trailer, at 22k with a 2800ish pin weight likes it best at 65psi... what does that say for you? nothing.

you should play with it a bit and ifn out what you like. i like ot keep the truck level and i adjusted the trailer tounge to be level when the truck is level. it tows better this way for me. it also puts the load sensing brake proportioning valve to a bit of use and makes it so the overload springs can be used if needed on hard bumps.

hook up and play with it, find out at all speeds what you like best for handling and ride comfort. then remember it or write it down.

oh, and think about getting a portable air tank, the kind you can fill up at a compressor. i have a 7 gallon one that i cary around. good for 200 PSI. this way i can play with my bags on the road, fill tires on the side of the road. the ultimate goal for me will be on board air of one type or another soon.

I haul a TruckCamper at about 70psi ish
When empty about 10psi maybe 8

I did the lazy man install and installed Air-Lift Sure Set onboard compressor & incab controller waytogo works great! When I post up camp I can level my camper out by letting the air out of one side as needed waytogo

    Air Bags ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!

You will love your bags!!! i keep mine at empty when unloaded, cause my trucks stiff enough as it is...with my toyhauler on ive gone as high as 70 psi..just go with what you need to level the truck and then a little more to firm it up..Best towing mod ive done..

you should keep the bags at about 7 psi empty, and loaded it really depends on how much your hauling.
