I have and 01 cummins and with a power puck the power is good but i am looking for just a little more git. also was wondering if this would hurt the engine or tranny.
Your stock trans already probably isn't your biggest fan on the added 60ishHP increase from the Powerpuck. majority says that thats about all a stock trans can handle without really effecting it's longevity. If you have plans for a new built auto or don't care then I would probably either go with a set of injectors which would complement the Puck well, but I would probably sell the Puck and buy an Edge Juice with Attitude monitor. All the fuel you need, full guages, lots of timing, and plenty of "git." I love mine. You have to remember, that you should be running some guages, and definantly for sure if you want more power. This is whats nice about the Juice and Attitude combo.
RJF is right on the mone there. you need gauges. With an auto of your year truck you are limited by 2 things - the durability (or lack of) of the transmission and the very small exhasut housing on the turbo. More than likely your transmission will be need some attention soon, and adding more power will just make that all more obvious. The Juice/ attitude combo is nice. I am getting ready to install a quadzilla Commander in a truck tuesday. Bigger screen, more readouts. Supposed to be real nice, and universal. With adapters will control any box, and has Fuel pressure, injection pressure, all that good stuff. How many miles on your trans? Rear end gears? Towed much?
thanks! thanks for the info. now to the torque converter what would be the best option a banks or the ats both will have a trans comand module. any suggestions?
Jason can give you much better marketing and pricing info than I could, as this is a hobby for and he can help you professionally. My thoughts, As he asked, how many miles on your trans? If it's a low mile unit (like under 75K TOPS) then I would go with a Suncoast triple disk converter and matching valve body or DTT. NADP seems to have good stuff too. You need more than a converter, you need adequit hydraulic pressure to make the trans and converter function properly and have the endurance to stand modified power output. I did an aftermarket converter on a fresh rebuild and skimped on the valve body and just went with a "shift kit." Long story short, the kit didn't preovide enough hydraulic line pressure to actually make the bigger converter hold and do it's job. I then went with a Suncoast valve body and now have good hydro PSI throughout the trans and holds good. If you have a high mileage trans just order a complete on a pallet transmission. It's pricy, but worth it. This is the top cats meow, because you get the converter and valve body you need, plus a bunch of internal mods that don't get done by a factory rebuild. Jason makes a good point also about the turbo, for the most part the HY35 sucks...:doah: It has a super small exhaust housing and basically will not allow more than about 65HP or so of additional fueling before you can really run into EGT trouble. If a guy tows heavy, even a conservative 65HP chip can be dangerous. This is why guages are so important, so you can monitor that stuff. This is where I am at, I am trying to save for an aftermarket turbo, but will likely have to settle for an HX35, which is still not a bad turbo really. It can flow a substantial more amount of air through it's exhaust housing vs. the stock HY. I can run my Juice on a 120HP setting, but for short bursts only. The HY is just way to small to actually move enough air to keep EGT temps down.
Neither. Suncoast. Less money, better converter. Chances are good you will have more work to do than a converter. You may wont to seriously consider a rebuilt performance unit. If you have alot of miles on the trans you are just setting yourself up for lots of rework. Here's what happens - You replace the converter. nice, feels tight. Good. But, you still slip the converter under throttle because you aren't getting enough line pressure. So, now you order a valvebody. Increases your pressures nicly, no more slip. Firmed up the shifts. Now it starts to slip while in gear, beacuse the clutches are tearing. Time for a full rebuild. Had this senario with a guy. Should have kicked down for everything the first time. . . . So, how many miles? Towing or not? Mostly freeway?
mostly freeway and town driving sometimes this pickup get hooked to 20ft landscaping trailer. The motor and driveterain has roughly 143000 on it yet I bouht it used from a banker who never hooked it to a trailer and Iam shure of that.
