I have done some towing with my 1500 and would like something with more towing power. So what is everyone's likes on a 2500 or 250? I'm looking to be able pull around 10,000 Lbs. Would be a trailer with a truck on it. Any ideas on a good truck? Looking to get something used so anything to look out for ???

    Thanks
    -James-

A used 2001-2003 Duramax is my opinion. Injectors are a lookout, but the warranty is good to 200,000 miles on the injectors.

If you go Super Duty you can easily handle it just pick a power plant

I will bring in Dodge. Can't beat the Cummins.

Doesn't matter which brand, all three are just a big bucket of bolts.

I think significant upgrades have been made almost every year by each of the Big 3 mfg. Therefore, once you determine your budget, go for the latest model you can afford, in order to take advantage of the latest technology.
My point is no matter how low mile, well kept or restored that 92 model is, spent your money on a 2001 and up even if it needs some TLC.
I believe one of the big improvements has been in transmissions. If buying a diesel, go for the latest and greatest multi-speed automatic available.
My used 1998.5 24v Dodge was a great buy in 2004 and the motor is still running great at 235000 but the trans only survived two trips through the mountains under load. Now $3500 later, the new trans does a great job and the rig is complete.

Anything in the heavy duty dept from the big 3 will do what you need. As for which truck, well you need to look at comfort, usable power, options, mileage, and price. You are looking at used, so its not like going to the car lot and deciding what you want. you need to look at the market around you and decide if whats on the market interests you. You may have your heart set on a dodge and stumble over a scream deal on a Duramax. Just keep your eyes open and ask us if you have questions about something specfic.
