Ok heres the thing im buyin a tow rig this summer when i graduate instead of a harley cause idk, but anyways. im debaiting on what to get. my heart gose for a chevy preferbly a knewer one, then a cummins cause i love the motor, and last but kinda not least a 7.3 that i know and trust (dont even start with the new 6.0). the reason im asking for more opinions is cause everyone i ask is all bias about chevy cause there all ford lovers, and really hate dodges. so if yall wanta let it out let it out. the reason im not leaning towards the new chevys is the all aluminum heads and all, and my next question is, is there a emission thing on stacks for the newer truck cause thats gona be the first thing i do thanks jeremy
The aluminum heads being a problem on the Dmax is a myth, I havent heard of any failing. All in all, its a good motor. The dodges are sweet, but the auto tranny is a weakness vs. the other companies. If you are getting a 5-6 spd, I wouldn't think twice about the cummins, best choice I think. I havent heard of stacks being a problem on any truck, unless it has a cat. converter.
Drive all three and go with what you like. They are all good,(the 6.0 is questionable:doah: ) The aluminum head thing, no worrys there, never has been. Just my $.02, I have a Dmax and love it. Had a Cummins,(we still have two more at home) and like the Dmax better. The Cummins is a beast, but from my experience with all 3 Dodge Cummins we've had, the Dmax has performend better. But drive all three, cant go wrong with the Dmax, Cummins or 7.3!!!
thats what im planing on doing when the time comes, cause the only diesels ive driven are the old 6.5, and that6.0 that i honestly kinda liked in my buddies truck had good speed and rode nice. i just wanta see how a cummins is and the new dmax.
I have a '02 D-max and I like it. The engine is strong and is made by isuzu who has been building diesels engines for a while and are used extensively overseas and even here in the states. Chevy also has the Allison trans in the newer models. I personnally preferr Fords and really like the way the F-250s look different from the 150s. The Dodge has the cummins, what elsse needs to be said. I have heard that the auto trans in the Dodge is questionalable. I think the most negative point to the Chevys is that they have the independant front suspension (IFS) where Dodge and Ford have a solid front axle. If you are not planning on hauling heavy loads I don't think you would have to be too concerned about the tranny in the Dodge. But maybe some Dodge owners could clarify that. The D-max makes more factory power than the PS 7.3 and I am going to guess that the Cummins probably does too. But a programmer can take care of that. Hope this non-bias info helps. I think you should get what makes you happy. waytogo
From the sounds of it Fords new 6.4 will be rolling off the line by the time you graduate think of that?I dont like the Dodge trannys drove em both manual and auto shift pattern and not enought gear.I have driven 6.0's and 7.3's I would go 7.3 of those two I havent had any much time around Duramaxes but the owners all are very happy.waytogo
All three are basically equal when you add everything up. If one was actually that much better, the other two wouldn't sell anything. Oh, and I HATE when people think the DMax is junk because it has LATE model technology that welcomes aluminum heads. Aluminum is the premium choice for heads, as it cools so much better than iron.
wait for the 6.4 to see what that is going to be doing so you have the best choices of new trucks i love gord but would never drive a 6.0 so wait and see what the 6.4 is like so you have all of the new options
