I have a '77 3/4 ton chevy 4x4 with a 350 and manul trany. I have a friend that has an 80's model school bus that has a 383 moter with low miles. I'm thinking of buying it and replacing the 350 with it. Any comments or suggestions?

 a schoolbus with a 383??? all combos ive ever seen from factory are 350,400 smallblock or 366 bigblock. unless your aquaintance made a special build for said schoolbus that engine is unlikely a 383.
A 383 is made from taking a 350 block boring it out .030 and puting a crank out of a 400 into it. the factory didnt put this into any vehicle but did make it as a crate engine, still very unlikely to have been put into a schoolbus.

My mistake, it is a 366 big block not a 383 small block. What do you think about the swap I had thought about?

I have had second thoughts about that 366 now though. Over the weekend I found a '79 truck just like my '77 but in better all around condition for $2200. I think I will buy the '79 so I have a truck to drive while I have the '77 350 rebuilt into a 383. Then put that moter in the '79. I think it will be less work and money for a better overall finished product. What do yall think?
