just curious if anyone knows of a kit currently available for this truck... i haul a 50ft car hauler and the brakes all work good, but i would like to get a little more out of my 6 speed... will the kits from an 05 work??? and how are these kits acctuated, obviously i would want less brakes when empty, how does it know how much to apply the brake...
I know the Jacob Brake, PacBrake, Banks, BD all have exhaust brake for your truck, assuming its a diesel. I just put a PacBrake on my 06 2500. Haven't pulled with it yet, but without a trailer, it works great, and higher the rpm, the better it works. Check out the web sites, both Jacobs and PacBrake have good sites, and explain how the systems work and include installation instructions. The Jacobs is a vacuum (you have to add an engine driven vacuum pump) where the PacBrake is an air operated system (12 volt). I got the PacBrake because of the air pump part of the system. Instructions of the PacBrake leave a few holes, but having a copy of the Jacobs instructions off their web site, filled the holes nicely and should be added to the PacBrake instructions.
Yes we definitly offer a brake for that truck, contact me at 800-887-5030 ext 105 and I will tell you more about the BD Brake for the 06 waytogo
Age old question, I'm sure, but I have an 05 48RE Auto Tranny Cummins. Has Chrysler approved an exhaust brake unit for my year yet?
Hey i just ordered mine. What holes did they leave out????? And how long did it take you for install???
I am not a fan of the Jacobs because of the Vacuume operation. The Vacuum pump is unreliable and tends to fail when you are hooked to a large trailer far from home, and wrecks the belts, and well, it just sux. The Pac and BD both use Compressed air to operate. I have installed several BD's on local horse haulers trucks. They are loving them, and install is reasonable and instructions are top notch. Price is similar between them. Your 05 48RE is not factory approved for exhaust brake use, however, it can still be used, just no warranty will be granted on the transmission by Dodge.
just ordered mine with my new truck and i will let you know what i think about the one from dodge.they have to order it and then put it in.
Reliability??? Since I installed my JBrake it has worked flawlessly. It also changed the shift patterns of the 48re. I like itwaytogo I still have my warrenty? How about you
I worked a Jake in with the deal when I bought my truck. Now 53,000 miles, same belt, and it has worked flawlessly. Nothing better than hitting the Jake in 4th gear, heading down an 8% grade with 8000 pounds of 5th wheel pushing and never having to touch the wheel brakes! BTW, the vaccume pump comes with the kit. Took me about 5 hours to install in my driveway. Could knock an hour off that now that I've done one. Not a bad job at all.
Another testimony I pull and get pushed down some mighty steep mountains in the BlueRidge. My rig grosses 25,0000000000#s. The dealer installed JBrake has served me well. While you top the hill and enter the grade and see these signs it can bring a lump in your throat. My 06 dually with 48re has been great. See more of this trip at http://www.gorowan.com/2004ram/march_2005_trip/index.html with my first 5er and 2004.5 SRW DC.
jake on my new 06 works flawlessly... and has the full 100k warranty (extended) that goes along with the truck... Carson Dodge put it on.. 1624.00 OTD.. worth every penny... coming thru the mountains I think I stepped on the brakes twice.. jake did all the work for me.. I would never own another truck without one
