well, its not that i couldnt do it on my own, but i didnt have time...

so the dodge went to the dealer to have the valves adjusted. 55k+ on te clock and i had 3 that were way out from what i could hear. the truck runs more smoothly and the EGT's dont spike as fast. not much slower, but you can just tell it is an extra second or so.

they wouldnt do it at first because it isnt reccomended till 100k, but i talked them into it. the tech said 4 were .03+ out.

also, the truck respondes to the go pedal a bit better.

    just though i would share.

for soem reason ive notices my truck is "ticking" somewhat i dotn know if i just havent paid attention to it before or what. is that what it sounds like ticking , i know they are diesels and they make that noise anyway. and my truck isnt acting up or anything...just my imagination probly.

mine started doing it at about 42k. the next cummins i buy will get the first one done at 35k or so. i wish i had a garage, because i would have done it myself.

it was 138 dollars, but they charged me for a valve cover gasket. IIRC they are supposed to be re usable up to 10 times. i cant see the first time of being removed being bad. that was 51 dollars and would cost a lot less at a cummins store.

sometimes they get glued on during assembly and are very hard to remove the valve cover without cracking it.....

i agree about the glue... i just think it can be avoided. i didnt argue t, just paid.

now im getting a p0606 code, ECM Failure. but the truck runs perfect, so i will see if it turns off in the next couple starts. could be the Van Aaken...

ya, they would rather charge you for a gasket than have you come back because it leaked, and if you where owning the bussiness you would see why its better just to sell a new one than chance a old one on a simple repair and have a comeback and then a customer who is very un happy, and wants it fixed for free........

    Yeah, rework sucks!

On your P0606 code, I think it should reset. Sounds like maybe you had a fuse pop? Might check on that too.

As for the Valve Lash Adjustment, very simple, just takes a few hours and some shade. If anyone wants to attempt it, lets get a thread going and I'll post up the procedure.

threads havebeen posted up on it a couple of times i think....

i dont have time or a place to do it, so i had them do it. i know i can do it... if i had time.

the P0606 code reset itself just after i posted that. its the third time after i looked at my records. it only happens when i switch the VA from low to high in a full throttle run... not a big deal.

cwhen the check engine light comes on. or at any time on my 04.5 and other years you can cycle the key to on three times leaving it on on the third time. it will list off the codes in the memory and then say done when done. doesnt work for all years if i remember right...
