New Fuel Pump.

    I'd like your advice on a new purchase I'm planning. :eek:

    I have an Edge Hot Comp installed and when running the unit on level 5 I get a bit of hesitation (feels like 3 stutters) then it takes off.
    I'm thinking Fuel supply. :confused:

    If I go with the FASS unit, do I really need to go with the 150 gph or can I stay with the 95 gph unit?

    Does the problem sound like a fuel supply issue?

    Do you have a fuel pressure guage? If you don't get one so you can see your pressures.

    Once you have a guage and find it droping way down when you hit that stutter, than you know it's a lack of fuel. Sounds like fuel to me, but it's still a broad statement to make without knowing any lift pump fuel pressures.

    The 95gph FASS unit should be plenty unless you plan on a ton more power. I think it's good for 425-450HP and down or so.

    A good strong fresh lift pump makes a huge difference too. My lift pump is 25K old and I have 17psi at idle and about 8-9psi at WOT on level 6.

    Thanks. Of course I didn't get a fuel pressure gauge. Maybe that and a boost gauge would be good.

    Boost, pyro, and Fuel Press are the typical 24v gauges. Autometer Z series match the dash pretty well. Pyro is very important. Ask Bobby (RJF) about the hot juice. Its hot all right!:eek:

    As for teh FASS, I would reccomend the 95/95 pump. The 95/150 pump would flow more fuel, and is the same price, so really it just depends on what you anticipate needing.

    I think the 95/95 is fine. I need to keep it reliable as well as fun to play with...waytogo

    Fuel Pressure gauges

    When fuel pressure gauges are recommended, are permanent gauges being recommended, or do you just hook up the gauges temporarily when you want to test the lift pump and fuel pump?

    They are talking about adding a permanent gauge in the cab so you can monitor the fuel pressure all the time. The most critical numbers for fuel pressure can only be seen while driving and at wide open throttle. If your fuel pressure drops below 5 psi at WOT you need to address the problem ASAP.

    With an aftermarket fuel system like the Fass or the Walbro your pressure issues should be solved but you still need to be aware of the pressures incase something happens to the lift pump system you have.

    I have the Walbro kit from Glacier Diesel Performance and my fuel pressure typically is 16 psi idle & 13.5 WOT. I don't even have fuel pressure regulator shimmed all the way otherwise my pressure would probably be around 19psi.
