I was just wondering what everybody thinks about the toyota tundra with a cat engine if that were to come to pass?
I think the extra competition (quality) would be good for all of us (Ford, GM, Dodge), from what I understand the Tundra frame will need to be stronger etc. but thats something they could change, also they might go with their own diesel engine as they own hino?
sad to say this, but after getting a new 2007 malibu (work car) and taking from waht i have learned about my dodge... it would be nice to get a ride that the body wont fall apart around the engine... Yotas are great rides. the big three need to fix themselves FAST or they are going to be bough FASTER! i would buy one, if it were a TRUE fullsize truck. the tundra is still a tad small.
ya i think it would need some frame work too. Its not a fully boxed frame and most of it isnt even partially boxed. I think it will also need some suspension work too to match the engines towing ability
What the Tundra would need to actually be a real 3/4 and 1 ton with a diesel engine is a completely new HD chassis.
I tell you what, if Toyota and Cat put a package together, its gonna be a contender. Like it or not, Toyota builds a Damn good truck and they last for ever. Same with Cat. This will be interesting to watch. I personally think this may be what Detroit needs to get their pricing and features in check.
Nissan said they are going to be doing the same thing here coming up soon. That should aslo be interesting to see.
