On my 2004.5 cummins one of my fuel lines from the injector pump to the motor is pulsating and making a ticking noise. It's the only one doing it, all the others are fine. I asked a tech at the dealer that was cummins trained and he said that was normal. But it doesn't sound normal. Since this has started my mileage has gone down and a performance loss, the truck seems to idle fine and doesn't seem to be running bad.I cannot get a answer if I have a bad injector or injector pump or a bad anything. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
Same Problem Here I got 2005 Ram and its doing the same thing. Its driving me Nut!!! I took it to the dealer and they said that its light fuel. the truck was bout used 3 months ago and its do it since i got it. They told me to run a new tank of fuel through it and if it didn't fix it they are going to replace the injection pump.
Already did I had all 6 injectors replace month after I got the truck and it still make the noise. The dealer sound it was come from the injection pump. They can replace it.Its warrantied, no money out of my pocket . I just hope it fixes it .
The CP3 would not be the cause of 1 injector knocking like that. Sounds like an injector on the way out, but it may not be failed yet enough to replace under warranty. The CP3 is basically a constant duty cycle pump. It simply supplies fuel the rail, where the injectors open and close based on electrical signals. If the CP3 were the problem, all injectors would have an issue. One thing you can do is pull the injector and swap it with another, like #3. If the tick moves, you know you have an injector problem. If not, it could be either a fuel delivery ( loose connector tube) or computor/electrical problem.
Hey thanks for the replies but I posted this just about a year ago I think and have fixed it since then.It ended up just being a lose isolator clamp.
Bad Injection pump The injection pump was making the noise. The Dealer replaced it and so far so good.
