Doesn't mention what range they are looking at.

A proposed California Air Resources Board regulation would force the owners of an estimated 80,000 trucks built before 1994 to remove them from the state's roads by 2009, a trucking official said.

Under the regulation proposed by CARB in August, all trucks operating in California and built before 2007 would require some form of retrofitting to reduce nitrogen oxide and particulate matter emissions.

"Our expectation is that pre-1994 trucks would be replaced by 2009,"said Erik White, head of the CARB heavy-duty diesel in-use strategies branch.

Mike Tunnell, director of environmental research for American Trucking Associations, estimated retrofits to cost between $8,000 and $20,000 a truck.

CARB is required by state law to carry out a study to assess the effects of any proposed regulation on the industries it would affect. L&MT

Doesn't matter much anymore. The feds just told Cali and 16 other states that they cannot set more restrictive emissions controls than the federal standard.
