Looks like another great site to learn from. Here is a picture of my tow pig. 86 Chevy CC Dually Choo-Choo Custom. 350 powered for now.....looking for a 454 or 6.2 or 6.5 diesel if the price is right
Welcome aboard! I have had the 6.5 in another truck. After fixing the cooling & head issues, ran a bit better than a 454 and got allot better fuel mileage.
Actually, If that was my truck. Id put in a 12v cummins and you would really have something. Not to mention increasing the value of the truck.
Was thinking of doing that, but decided if i was gonna spend that kinda money might as well buy a new truck.
This transplant has been done many times. Here's some folks who have been doing it for awhile: http://www.autoworldmt.com/
I have a customers truck there right now! Ken and Donna are great! AS for your little hypothetical project, the 12v would require minimal wiring , and if you have the stick, it would be even easier. If you want an auto then you would use the 47RH, and mount a switch for 4th gear and for converter lock up and thats pretty much the extent of wiring for the transmission. The motor would be Starter solenoid, start/stop solenoid on the motor, heater grid relays, and then gauges, either reuse the stock ones by using the stock sensors in the motor or just swap the dash insert with a piece of aluminum cut out to fit Autometer gauges. I think you can have the whole thing done for around 8-10k, complete, ready to tow. If you do the work then probably half that, depending on where you get a motor and what you do transmission wise. BTW - Welcome to the rig!
