Got an 86 CC dually. Was gonna install a brake controller and discovered it already has an older tekonsha....cannot find a model # on it but has 11-89 on the back of it. I'm guessing thats the manufacter date. Got a couple of ?'s. This older controller has a brake line going from the back of it to the master cylinder. What for? Also has a red wire not connected coming from the harness with the other wires. Any idea what it connects to? Also lights up without a trailer attached when brakes are applied. And would i be better off installing the newer one i have....a TAP Brake-Force? it does not have the brake line to it? Thanks in advance for any help.
Just went out and looked at it again. Only wire that is connected is the ground wire! it is a black wire. Funny thing is it still lights up like it has power. But nothing from it runs to the battery or power. The black wire runs to a relay on the fire wall. I know the electric trailer brakes will not work if the blue wire is not connected to the 7 way plug. So now I an confused. Should i just replace it?
Back in the "old days", the brake controller worked off of hydraulic pressure from the towing vehicle's brake system. I remember installing a few of those, but it's been so long ago that I've forgotten the details. I'd replace it with a vastly improved newer model.
