Found a trailer that looks like a good deal. It's a 1994 Wilson, originally had 5000 lb axles with 6" brakes, but were swapped a couple years ago for 6600 lb 6 lug ones with 11" brakes on both axles. It still has 10k on the plate so that's good since I wouldn't need the commercial license to tow it in CA. New wood on the deck, 2 5/16" coupler, chain locker, spare tire, new 10 ply tires, all new lights and wiring. Asking price is $2000.
Looks like a great deal, depending on frame construction. How long is it? Channel or I beam? Cross members? Sizes? Tires? Address and phone number?
Ramps? Elctric brake-away? Deck width? How far away? Price seams fair. How long is it, looks like a 20fter???
20 footer, not sure on the channel size (looks like 6" to me) or crossmembers yet, 82" deck width, 10 ply 16" tires, no breakaway kit, ramps stored under trailer and slide out from the rear. It is about an 800 mile drive from me, so probably close to $300 in fuel, but much nicer than anything I can get around here for close to the price. I'ld probably try to find someone to share driving duties with me so I can pick it up and get it home in one day. I should know by tomorrow if I'm going to get it, someone is supposed to come over tonight with cash for the truck I'm selling so I can buy this. So long as they don't flake (they probably will) then I'll probably make an offer on this.
OK, 5" channel doubled in the center over the axles. Tires are new 15" 10 ply e load range radials. He has a set of 16s with new tires on 8 lug rims with hubs that he'll throw in for an extra $400 but I don't think it would be worth it really. He's sending me some more pics tomorrow morning, if they look good I'll probably make an offer. Kinda scary buying something that pricey sight unseen, but you only live once I guess. He's pretty forthcoming about what's wrong on it, and that all seems to be cosmetic anyways.
Sounds like it would work, 82" deck you better make sure thoes fenders are removable. They don't look like the drive over ones. Ya more pics for sure buying used 800 miles away is tuff. I hear ya about not haveing any luck finding used one localy, thats the main reason I said F-it and bought new. By the way ~ A1 Trailers in Sac has ALLLOTTT of trailers on their lot. This is a brand new store. I was their VERY FIRST sale hahahaha He just got 15 PJs in with all differnt configurations and lengths, deckovers too. They are so new that all of their hard parts were still in boxes hahaha. Very cool folks too, Father & Son biz. They beat Travlin Toys by over 500 bucks....I know its alot more $$ but I have new stuff that will last and last (my justification for spending 4K on a trailor imp: ) Good Luck bro Burt
I was going to get a new one, but after realizing that it was going to cost me close to $4k I decided that it's way the F out of my price range. For half the price I'll be happy with an ugly but solid used one. If I use the wee out of it maybe I'll decide to go with something nicer. One good thing about having a trailer that needs paint - I won't care about welding **** on to it to customize it for my application! I've been running through designs in my head to widen the deck a little bit. As far as deck width, the track width on my truck is 86, so no matter what I get I'm going to have to make the ramps for inboard of the fenders to drive over. I have a plan on how to do them so they will be easily removable so it shouldn't be a problem. I may pick up some 1/8" wall 2x4 tubing and weld it on to the outside of the stake pockets as an uber rub-rail that will give me 8" total more deck width fore and aft of the fenders. I've been thinking about making my own drive-over fenders, I'm just not sure that they would look very nice. Fuction is one thing, but I'd like them to look halfway decent too.
Wow 86", mine is just shy of 83" so I will beable to squeeeeze thru. I haven't put my K5 on my trailer yet(no time) but the tape messure looks like I should fit fine. Sounds like you got a good plan. That 20fter should work fine and like you said you have the opertunity to make it your way waytogo Good Luck Burt
"I've been thinking about making my own drive-over fenders, I'm just not sure that they would look very nice. Fuction is one thing, but I'd like them to look halfway decent too." Another thought..The fenders on mine are thick diamond plate steel like 3/8 or so(HD upgrade) with a few simple gussets on the inside they should be drive overable. I will get some pics so you can see the design and maby that will help you with yours??
I think we can work something out on that front. Nothing a grinder can't fix. Don't expect a bunch of flowing curves, but we can put together some tough, sharp looking fenders! Marc
Hmmm, maby they are 1/8th..hell I don't know :doah: I know they are thinner than 1/4 hehehehe, I can stand on them and they don't flex. I havent taken them off so maby they are hella heavy?? The trailer weighs in at 2400lbs acording the 'ship weight' tag.....Maby I ment 3/16...whatever in inbetween 1/8 & 1/4 OK hehhee...damn rookies :stir:
Well me and my bro were all set to drive up there tonight to pick it up, but the dude just called me and said that it was stolen last night. Suuure it was, I wish he was at least man enough to tell me that he sold it out from under me instead of lying about it.
Be glad he told you before you left Shaggy. Would have been a pisser to drive that far and find out it was gone.
