Does sunlight realy kill a tire's life span?
From time to time I see parked RVs & trailers with the tires coverd.

Do you guys cover your tires when parked outside?
How many years does it take for the sun to destroy a tire to the point it needs to be replaced?

    Just thinking out loud here....

I don't know how long it takes, but it does help dry rot them.

Yeah, the sun will make tires crack like crazy. Thats why I was nervous about the tires on my little trailer going to Bfest, they are old and are weather cracked pretty good. We have that problem a lot with farm equipment. I've got a bankout that has monster truck sized rice and cain tires on it. They were put on it in the 70's and are still in good shape. It was kept inside a shop for 11 months out of the year. 10 years in the sun and most tires are about done on our farm equipment. Trailers are worse since they will be spun fast unlike our farm stuff where tires have an easy life.

Ya I'm thinking about making some sun shields out of thin plywood...just to try and combat the sun-rotting sidewall issues. I can't imagine being able to 'wear-out' a set of trailer tires on the road so they will be on there for years and years, keeping them outa the sun should makeum last a lifetime waytogo

Concrete sucks moisture out of tires too, so park it on strips of wood to help fight that.

My trailer is parked in a hole in the woods so it doesn't see any signifigant amount of sun but is parked on dirt and leaves that will stay damp a good amount of the time. Will this have any ill effect on the life of my tires?
