i have a 2001 2500hd duramax/allison short bed single wheels, want to tow montana 5th wheel, trailer weight with carrying capacity is 12,700lbs pin weight is 2500 max manual of truck says 15400 max trailer and 25oo max pin weight if i put firestone air bags will that help pin weight thanks sal
I moved this to "General Tow Rig" for better exposure. And yes, air bags will help with max load carried, including pin weight. But exactly how much is a matter of some discussion since other things like tires, frame, and hitch durability come into play. Other than a bit of squate (that the airbags can easily correct) I wouldn't have a problem with 2500 lb pin weight at all. These trucks have a rather large "safety margine" so as long as you don't exceede the recommended max, you have plenty of breathing room for the odd changes due to load out (tanks full/empty, storage holds, etc.). Of course, that assumes a sufficient hitch. There are some out there I wouldn't run close to that without serious concern. I have a 30k Reese goose/5er setup with frame plates and all so that I never have to worry about that.
weight 2500hd dura/alli short bed do you have short bed i do , we were going to get a resse slider,is your truck gvw anymore than mine and how much does your trailer weight and hitch weight thanks big help i have heard all stories about it would not workthe hitch weight of the trailer is 2300lbs it a montana 2980LR you can see specs on keystone rv website
Mine is basically the same as yours. 2500HD short bed crew cab. Mine is not a slider and many 5'ers are too tight without the slider, but mine was bought mainly for goose. I do not currently have anything but a bumper pull due to expensive storage around Phoenix. Looking for something outside town, getting tired of city life, at which point I have plans for a 30'+ goose with camper much like robzilla has. You can see his pics here.
