This my first thread so be nice. I'm looking to increase the air flow on my CTD with the K&N's 63-1532 & AERO-TURBINE's 4040. Does anyone have this combo or one close to it?? Will be getting 30' 5th wheel toy hauler 2004.5 CTD 4X4 QUAD CAB SHORT BED Mods. JUICE W/ ATTITUDE
air flow if better breathing is what you want i would suggest an afe system it is a much larger filter than the kn. i have read bad reports on the kn but i also have one on my 01 dodge and never had any problems. but if air flow is what u want then check out the afe..... as for the aero i dont knw much about that.
1 vote for the Scotty Air II......sucks cool ambient air through the fender AND is the only unit to also draw cool air through the cowl. It also uses a superior UNI 2 stage oiled foam filter element compared to the cotton gauze junk like the K&N. This a Scotty II on my 98.5....
ive also heard that the scotty ii is pretty good. the local diesel shop keeps tellingme about an intake that is pretty good i cant remember the name all i remember is that it is green
i got an airaid intake and i have the same motor as you. i like mine fine... i dont really know which brand is the best but im sure any of them are an improvment over stock... i wish i had my pyrometer installed before i installed the intake so i could see if it made a difference in egt's.
Air Flow I have a K&N that whistles a little at times. I looked at the AFE and it is much more compatible with the under side of the hood and should seal up much better than the K&N.
What is this supposed to mean? I simply posted a picture.....did I do something wrong? I'm not super smart computer dude.....I wasn't trying to "steal" anything!
When you link a picture from another site, those sites can "read" the request and block them if the "link" didn't come directly from a browser (for instance, you type the URL into the address bar), or from within their list of approved sites. So basically, the owner of that site does not like his bandwidth being used to supply images on this site, and so they had their web server replace the image you requested with that scolding image in it's place. Generally intended to keep other sites from using those images as part of their site "content", but also has the same affect on use of those images from within the forum software (their site can't tell the difference).
I am using a stock type Amsoil air filter the flows enough air that it does not pull the filter minder at WOT. I have also replaced the ducting from the air box to the turbo and put a cold air duct from the bottom of the air box to below the frame.
You can upload your picture to the TowRig.com gallery and use it on other sites if you like, I chose to put a watermark in the corner, that way you can use the picture on other sites and in return I get some advertising. waytogo
I have an K&N replacement filter in my cummins for now, no problems here. The filter is bigger then the stock filter and fuel economy improved about 2 mpg and another 1 mpg when i removed the silencer in the air intake...the whistle is nice too.
The areoturbine is a great little unit, sounds great and nice fit. As for the intake, stay away from K&N, stick with the AFE Pro Guard 7 or Volant intakes. Safer fro the motor and I feel higher quality. Amsoil also offers a line of universal filters designed to replace K&N and other popular filters on intakes, so there is a thought. A drop in replacnemt at the least would do some good. Lots of good results with the Amsoil drop ins.
Wait a minute....you got a 2mpg improvement over your stock air box with an aftermarket unit? Even harder to believe....another 1mpg from removing the silencer ring?? I can see the air filter deal...nearly plugged up stock filter and then a brand new setup...I can see the gain... The silencer ring gain really has me wondering..
As far as air intakes, I like the Amsoil universal induction filters and I just built myself a box out of 14g aluminum and used an Amsoil 4510 on the end of the stock intake tube. Same setup as an AFE or something but with about $85 or so and 3 hrs labor.
i have the Aero TUrbine 4040, and i would make sure you get the long version if you plan on removing the kitty... it will get LOUD if you have the short version like i do....
