I want to tow my 78 f-250 behind my 95 2500 dodge. on a rated trailer is this safe to do. the trailer rental company tells me that I need a 1 ton. my truck is the 8800 gvw and I don't think I should half to have a 1 ton. am I wrong?

Doesn't that suck?!?!? I hate rental companies. I had to haul an El Camino from Clovis to Lubbock one night on a freakin car dolly because of that crap. They wouldn't rent me the trailer because my truck was only a 1/2 ton, even though it's tow rated higher than what their computer says.

Best way to handle it is to not tell them what you're hauling, or tell you're hauling a Yugo.

If it's U-haul, they can be real pricks about it, and will tell you that their insurance won't allow it, or that if something happens to you, the truck, or the trailer that it's not covered under insurance if you lied about what you were doing with it. Frankly, their insurance doesn't cover anything once you hook it up to your truck, it becomes your truck's insurance company's problem then.

As long as the truck's not too heavy for the trailer, I'd say give it a shot. Just be careful when it comes time to stop.

I hauled a 79 K20 (minus engine)on our 18' trailer behind our 78 F250 with no problems. This use to be our tow rig to haul our backhoe to a cemetery outside of town.

A 3/4t and a trailer will be just fine behind your 3/4 Cummins. Go back to them and say the truck is a 1/2t and you were mistaken, the one you will haul. If that doesn't work go someplace else and tell them you've got a 1 ton and only need to haul a moped blah blah blah....

I rented a United Rentals trailer once and hauled an F150 4x4 pickup on it behind my 3/4t K5 blazer, I just told them I had a 1 ton dually diesel pickup. THey didn't know the difference when I actually hooked up to the trailer.

You should be fine pulling it. Gross trailer weight should be between 7000 and 8000, which is right about what mine weighs. When I pulled w/ my 2500, the suspension handled it just find, but the engine was too weak to pull it safely. W/ a CTD you should be just fine

You will be fine, my 06 3/4 ton 4x2 is rated to pull just over 13,000 lbs and im sure yours is very close to that, i would try another rental company. my .25c worth
