I just picked up a 16' diamond plate trailer to tow my built-up 98 Wrangler.
My 2001 Ram 2500 CTD is going to need about 6" of drop at the hitch.

    QUESTIONS:
1- I'm figuring my built up Wrangler has got to be 4000lb or more... anyone ever weigh theirs to give me a ballpark#? (Fully skid-plated, RE Long Arm, soft top, 35" BFG)

2- Is an adjustable ball hitch suggested / recommended? I figure I'll be renting a camper to tow a few times a year as well, and will probably need various ball height, no?

3- Is it any better / worse to get a receiver hitch drop and go with a lesser drop at the ball?

    Thanks.

I would recomend the Rapid Hitch. here is a small thread about them. I know a few guys running them and they all swear by them. I have about 8 different ball mounts and wish that I could return them all for one Rapid Hitch.

Also when figuring for the drop of your ball mount dont forget to factor in truck sag. Although most of our 3/4 and 1 ton trucks dont drop much it is some and should be accounted for.

For example: when I moved to Colorado a few weeks ago I towed my Jeep on a uhaul trailer. I had about 2000lbs of stuff in the bed of my truck and with the trailer hooked up I needed a 1in rise hitch. When I emptied my truck and took the trailer back to Uhaul empty i used a 4in drop.
