OK, let's get a thread going on beefing up a manual tranny with, aftermarket clutch, short throw kits, etc.. What have you done to yours or would you like to do, how has it improved stregth, driveability? Why did you go with a hand shaker besides the strength factor, anything new from the after market world etc..
Any problems or concerns with your manual tranny?

When I drop the Cummins in my 99 F350, Im going to go with either a South Bend CON FE, or a dual disc setup from Haisleys. Id like to throw the BD short shifter on while Im at it, but the Cummins seems to be taking all my money right now :D Once I get the 12V dialed in well, Ill try out the BD kit, Ive heard good things so far. With the ZF6 trannies, an upgraded clutch is about the only route you can go. It would be nice to have a 5600 behind it, but I can save that project for another day, I think the ZF will stand up just fine to what the 12V will put out.
Ive always liked handshaker trannies, and enjoy the simplicity of them. While I agree that a well built slushbox will be just as tough, and quicker in a race, it just comes down to personal preference for me.

I converted my 95 3500 4x4 Ram to a 5 speed after the Auto started slipping. I love the torque of the Diesel and being able to keep it there even if it meens launching from a light in 3rd and seeing the white tire smoke combined with the black exhaust smoke :D . One great benefit has been the ability to use the exhaust brake in every gear especially in town. The NV4500 was alot cheaper for me to build than the Auto would have been. The next mod for the trans is gonna be a 98 transmission lid so I can run a short shift kit. I've installed the fully splined main shaft and HD syncros. I found that the PTO cover on some junk class 8 truck trannies to have a pocket which when I installed two of on my NV4500 allowed me to add a exrta full quart of gear oil.

Explain this short shift kit some more, does it just shorten the stroke between 1 and 2, 3 and 4th etc.?

It's the same short shift kit that BD performance sales. Yes it shortens the shifter throws by 20-30% I think.

    So do we.

Fast coolers are a great Idea as well. I had them on my 2003, and have had a lot of calls on them.

Another "Bomb" would be to use a high quality lube. Just because its expensive doesn't make it the best. Amsoil lubes are about half teh cost of the Stock Stealership fluids.

On the 5600 - OVER FILL BY 1 QT!!! This will save you from premature replacement or tear down due to bearing failure.

The Short Shifter changes the ratio of handle throw to the internal linkage. Basically, your throw is shorter, but will require a little more effort, especially in teh AM when the transmission is notchy already.

Clutches - When ordering a clutch, don't think about where you are in the HP game, but where you think you may want to be. Nuthing sucks worse then spending big bucks on a clutch only to add that new (insert truck toy) and have it slip. South Bend Clutch's new spring loaded dual disc set up seems to be the ticket if you want big power or want to race with a driveable amount of power.

    Did I miss anything?

so rite now im guessing im at 450hp and around 800-900ft. lbs(not at the rw ive never dynoed it so i have no idea) with the bullydog on extreme and the intake and exhaust.....im guessing ill end up with around 750-850hp or so when im through with the mods i want maybe more hopefully.....so i should just get a 1500-2000 ft lb clutch now and not have to screw with it later, do they even make clutches that big im kinda clueless to this topic... thanks
