ive had no probs with any of the dodges trannys that i have owned, i had a 96 360 1500 with a auto, a 01 2500 5.9 nv4500 and currently a 05 5.9 nv5600. the 96 and the 01 i put through the paces too, the 05 hasnt been treated as ruff but has seen soem work and is still doing fine

You have to decide if you want an auto or manual.

All the autos are fine and all the standards are basically fine, but be weary of GM's dual mass flywheel behind the Dmax's and 6spd.

i myself like manual's but i would get a auto if on such models they held up better such as what u were talking about with the GM's

i am more or less looking for what trans is holding up better in the trucks
i will be using the truck to tow my jeep mostly so i am looking for a trans that will put up with the the best

    thanks James

The Allison in the GM's is likely the best. The Torque shift is also really good, and the 48RE in the 3rd gen Dodges is also a good transmission.

They are all great transmissions, it's when people don't service them, beat them senceless past what they are designed for, mod the engine in front of them, or all combined. Take those into account, and they will all fail.
