I see some of yall are amsoil dealers. I wanted to switch to amsoil 15W40 syn. My question is how long do have to wiat before switching to full syn. oil. I only have 3000 miles on my truck. How many miles or oil changes do I need to wait. Thanks.

I ran Dino oil until about 50K until I switched....probly don't have to wait that long but 3K is a little soon in my opinion.

I think he is talking about conventional oil as in fossil fuels. Probably haven't heard that since school. Try the amsoil web site. I am not sure why you couldn't switch now, but they should be able to tell you for sure, or you could try the dealership if they don't give you the old story about how you shouldn't let anyone but them change your oil and use what they use. blah blah blah

Just brace yourself for the price increase for synthetic oil when you switch over. Course with amsoil, you only need to change it or have it tested every 25K miles. waytogo

I think generally with diesels they recommend a minimum of 10K breaking & 20K is recommended before you switch.

In your owners manual it should state how long Navistar wants you to hold off on synthetics. Cummins reccommends 20K.

I wouldn't be afraid to add synthetic after about 10K or so.

    Thanks

Thanks for the info everyone.:) I'll have to re-read the owners manual to see. I did ask my dealer and they did not know, nor did they sell it. I need to find another dealer/ service center that actually cares.
    Thanks again for the info.waytogo

It really does not matter. Your truck will still break in. I have done all mine at the first oil change. Never had an issue. If you are hard on the truck or tow alot or anything then wear in will be much faster. most people wait until 10K.

    Really its up to you.
