Canadian trucking officials said federal and provincial governments should not mandate biodiesel fuel until they prove the soy-based fuel blends will not harm 2007 engines.

David Bradley, chief executive officer of the Canadian Trucking Alliance, cited comments made by the Engine Manufacturers Association, which warned that poor-quality biodiesel could have adverse effects on 2007 truck engines.

“I would suggest that the points raised by EMA must be recognized by your ministry and rigorous scientific testing should be undertaken to assess the impact of biodiesel on modern truck engines,” Bradley wrote to Ontario’s Minister of Agriculture last month.
