Anyone run discs on there trailer? I've looked into them in the past on my smaller trailers since the drums would fade really quick on long down hills. My new setup isn't a problem since I just use the exhaust brake plus the axle brakes on the trailer are massive and never have a problem. But for 10k trailers, anyone have them? Or regular surge brakes? If so do you like them? D'oh! This should be in the trailer equipment forum but oh well.
For boat trailers they're the hot thing. But with surge brakes you can't apply trailer brakes while under power to pull out of a jack knife
Yep thats my one major beef I always had with them. People would recomend them to me but since I always pulled tag trailers and would always get some sway I didn't know what I would do if I couldn't reach down and push the magic "straighten the trailer" button . With teh gooseneck it's not a huge deal anymore but neither is braking since the brakes are forkin huge.
My brother converted his 7K drums over to disks using a kit from Redneck on his 3 car trailer that works everyday. He has said many times he is really glad that he did it. Much less maintenance and no need to worry about when the magnets are going to wear out. He did have to switch brake controllers, but I forget now what he had then and now.
