If it has a long bed I'm going to be seriously depressed. http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/autos/story/3094577p-3589151c.html Fri Oct 14 2005 Dodge announces Ram MegaCab dually BECAUSE it's not enough that Dodge's new Ram MegaCab pickup can transport you and five friends in more comfort than some luxury cars, Dodge recently announced plans for a MegaCab "Dually" model, capable of towing more than 7,000 kilograms behind you and your gang. Dodge says the dually (two wheels per side) rear axle -- a smaller version of those used on transport trucks -- gives this latest iteration of its Ram a serious leg up on the towing competition. Chevy's Silverado 3500 for instance, is limited to 5,443 kg, while the Ford F-350 Super Duty is rated to pull 6,169 kg. The Dually arrives in January with a standard 5.9-litre Cummins turbo-diesel torque monster and six-speed manual transmission (an automatic will be optional). Four-wheel-drive models get an electric-shift transfer case, while a limited-slip differential is an option across the board. Stopping power is courtesy of four-wheel disc brakes measuring 350 millimetres in diameter -- almost the size of the wheels on a Chevrolet Aveo. Antilock braking with an electronic variable proportioning system is standard too. LouAnn Barette of DaimlerChrysler Canada said pricing will be announced closer to the MegaCab Dually's availability.
Interesting to see what they do in the future, a long bed would be like two feet longer than the Ford crew cab long bed.
While I am not a fan of any truck with less than a 8' bed I really don't understand why you would not want a 8' on a dually. That 2' extra bed length makes towing a 5er so much easier. Who wants to mess with a sliding hitch?
i doubt it............ a ford crew cab long bed is pretty long. a chevy crew cab long bed is about 8" shorter, and a dodge crew cab loing bed is about 1.5' shorter than a ford..... why do i know? becuase a ford crew cab only fits on the back of our roll back by about 1/2 of the rear tire on by 1".
The two feet part was a joke, but if they indeed made an 8 foot bed Mega cab it would be longer than the Ford.
i might have to buy some bed sides and install them into my short box... love the kinda old school dodge dually look. Grant
It seems that some of this press release is misleading. I looked into it a bit because it just didn't seem right, this is what I found. From Dodge's press release - GVWR - 10,500 lbs. Payload capacity to 3,240 lbs., GAWR - 9,350 lbs. GCWR - 23,000 lbs. Max trailer weight - 15,600 lbs. (doesn't specify conventional or 5th wheel) Comparing apples and apples to the Ford, the info for an F-350 Dually with 4.10 gears (2005 model year since that's the info I have on hand) - GVWR - 13,000 lbs Payload Capacity to 5400 lbs (short bed, crew cab long bed is 5200 lbs) GAWR - 9000 lbs GCWR - 23,500 Max trailer weight - 15,000 conventional, 16,100 5th wheel (2wd, 4wd is 15,600) I would venture to guess that Dodge is talking 5th wheel on that max trailer weight figure, if they're talking conventional then good luck finding a hitch rated for that. This looks like Dodge is just playing a numbers game, the Ford has it beat when you compare apples to apples. For those that haven't heard, the MegaCab set a new record for braking performance - it takes the farthest to stop of any truck on the road.:doah:
If it was a long box that would be one long muthafscking truck As it is my 21' long monster sucks to park... I coulnd't immagine another 18" of wheelbase. It would still be pretty badass though
The pictures I've seen of the Mega Cab Dually are butt ugly. The rear tire covering looks like an afterthought. It resembles a flat piece of sheet metal stuck into the side of the bed over the tires. I was waiting for this truck and have been disappointed with the short bed and ugly appearance. They need to put a real long box dually on the street. Dave
Doesn't mean jack to me if it isn't offered on a C&C frame. Then again I use those duallies (insert dumptruck smiley here). My current dually has 160" whelbase waytogo
