Wondering, does your Diesel Rig take off from a dead stop faster at 3/4 throttle than it does at full throttle?
I too have found that flat out flooring it "WOT" is way different than a gas engine. I believe it has to do with the turbo spinning up enough air to feed the diesel engine. SO If I really wanna get moving quick off the line I will two foot it. One on the brake and one on the throttle. I get my RPM up around 1K then as I start to GO I let the brake off and slowly, but fast, press the throttle down and my rig freakin launches. WHen I first started driving my diesel it took some 'seat time' to figure out how to make it perform, once you get taped into the power and figure out how to use it it is AWESOM!! waytogo
<--- has a 6 speed and 1,500 rpm clutch dumps in second gear get the truck moving NICE.... once clutch has fully grabbed, and it takes less than a second, then i go full throttle. by then im at 3200 and time to shift. only about a 3 foot patch is left and its moving the entire time. i dislike slush boxes.... BUT i do notice that i can take off a tad bit faster in first when i dont go full throtle. Grant
You may dislike autos, but dump the clutch all you want, the same truck with an auto will smoke you. opcorn:
Stock auto versus a stock 5spd? If the driver knows anything about what they are doing, I would put money on the manual trans. winning. Only if we are talking identical trucks though, and stock trannies.
He has a 6 spd. I disagree, the driver can be an expert shifter all they want....but the turbo has to spool up every time next gear is hit. I can take my dad's H.O 6 spd, not easy but by a decent length. Keep in mind he has more power stock than I do too, both trucks are mechanically stock. You can't shift a diesel like it's a Vette and you loose boost from gear to gear. There is a reason why the autos are basically the only choice for DHRA guys.
I'm not sure; if I launch at more than 3/4 throttle, the sheer g-forces force the blood out of my eyeballs and to the back of my brain, and I pass out. Marc
On a totally unrelated topic, I saw this website, and thought of Marc's signature. Might be good for a laugh..... http://www.kalecoauto.com/
