It's time for me to change the oil in my new GMC 2500hd (6.0 gas), and I am debating whether or not to use conventional motor oil or go the synthetic route. What do you guys think?

Duh, i just read the post a little ways down that basically covers this topic.

If you still want to give your opinions or add anything please do, maybe what you think is the best brand, etc. I was leaning towards conventional motor oil anyways.

    Thanks

I wouldnt use sythetic unless thats what it has always had. I drive a diesel so Im not sure what oils are available, but stay away from the cheap stuff and the recycled stuff, they both break down extremely fast. Im sure someone will chime in soon to help you outwaytogo

I have read that a new engine should be broke in with regular dino oil..after the first 10-15K miles then synthetic can be used...any leaks will get worse with synthetic as it has been said to 'find the leaks' easier....

Burt basically said what I was thinking. Run a good conventional oil ofr about 10K and go synth. at that point if thats what you want. I use Napa brand oil for ALL our gas engine vehicles and equipment. It is Valvoline oil with Napa's name on the bottle. I wouldn't run synthetic unless you are working the engine hard or trying to get more miles out of a change.waytogo
