General Motors Corp. said last week it was looking at possible changes with its Allison Transmission business, including selling it, as part of the company's plan to improve its financial condition.

The company is examining the value of operations "not central to GM's mission of designing, manufacturing and selling cars and light trucks globally," it said in a statement.

    There were no further details.

Allison dominates the automatic transmission market for commercial trucks. It employs 3,400 people, has seven plants in Indianapolis, and sells its products in North and South America, Europe, Africa and Asia. L&MT
