    Truck is an 03 6 speed 4x4

tonight I was coming home and the truck went to idle and the check engine light came on. I could hold 35-40 in 6th @ idle, but finally pulled over and looked everything over and pulled the cover for the throttle cable off and manually accelerated the engine and the first time it was dead just as in the cab, but then came back to working, so I put it back together and drove home. I seems to run fine and work fine now, but it still has the check engine light on. Is there a cheap scanner out there for these? The truck is all stock at this point.

    Any ideas?

    TIA

not sure if it works on an 03, but try cycling the key three times and leave it in "on" the third time. might pop the codes up on your ODO. then you can check online what the code is.

if all IS back to normal then the CEL will go off after a few starts.

The key cycle works on the 03 and up trucks too.

AS for what happened, sounds like the TPS lost communication.

Thanks for the advice guys! I did the key thing and got the code for APPS (can't remember which one now) so I took a look at connections and things and didn't see anything really wrong, so I just kept driving it and it has not done it again, and the check engine light has gone away and not come back, so I think I am ok. I talked to my diesel mechanic back home and he says they replaced quite a few of those on the older trucks, but don't see it so much on the 03 and up trucks. Hopefully it doesn't return waytogo
