Fords are cool.... imp: Now get to postin' why you like your Ford and/or why you chose Ford. Don't be afraid to mention your favorite thing Ford has as a feature or what sets it apart from the "other"guys. Something I always though was cool about the Fords over the other two was their window design. The windows that slope down just a little by the mirror was a nice idea, not an original idea, but kutos to them for using the design in an LD truck.
I like the interior size and design, big and simple(crew cab). The big windows are a plus too, you get to see everything. Ford got some pretty cool color schemes as well. The fact the dually wheels are actually polish aluminum with a clear coating are a plus. IMO, i looked better that the pre 03 dodges, but now that the new body style dodges are out they are pretty much neck to neck, with the only down fall beeing that small cab. I would love to have both, but i dont make that kind of money, but i am in no way brand loyal so maybe i will switch up on e day and try a cummins, but it would have to be a mega cab dually with an 8' bed, ive got kids.
Why not get a ford for the powerstroke, in your opinion, whats wrong with the powerstroke? Are you a loyal cummins fan or do you think that there is a prroblem with the powerstroke, ie reliability etc...
The Cummins ISB is just an all around better engine, thats why. For one it's not a V8, it's an inline 6 like a diesel should be. It makes better torque, lasts a lot longer, and sounds good when strait piped, unlike the Fords that have that goofy sound that sounds like an exhaust brake is stuck on when they hit the throttle.
Well Bobby pretty much summed it up for me. I have towed with powerstroke's, with manual and automatic transmissions. I have towed with cummins both auto and manual and they flat out pull more. The cummins may not be as fast on take off, but when it gets up to speed, Ford boy better look out.
Cant knock anybody for thier opinions, but the ford 7.3 with 4.10 rear gears and in a dually is the best setup a tower can dream of having unless you move up to bigger and better trucks waytogo
I have to strongly disagree that the cummins is a better engine, they are pretty evenly matched, ie reliability and so on.... being a v8 has nothing to do with it "Makes better torque", torque is torque no matter how you put it Cummins lasting longer than a t444e, that is a myth! again, pretty evenly matched rotfl Its amazing how people jump on bandwagons so quickly. The way they sound, ie goofy, is in the ear of the beholder, some like the stroker sound, some like the cummins sound. Jsut so that you know, The t444e is the engine of choice for a great majority of government, ambulance, fire & rescue vehicles, buses etc....not the cummins waytogo They are not the engine of choice without reason
The reason is that Ford offers the best deals on fleet vehicles. Period, end of story. Just because the government and military used alot of 6.2's in the '80s doesnt mean they were the greatest motor in their day, it just means that GM built the vehicle that suited the governments needs for the cheapest price. Which is exactly what ford does. And i would like to ask, can you back ANY of your claims with facts? First it was badmouthing the duramax/ allison, now you are claiming that its a "myth" that the ISB is a better motor than the T444E?

BTW, why do you consider the cummins to be better than the T444e, is it accumilative milage? If that the case, they both get a ton of miles.....just curious waytogo

Oh boy, here it goes again. I really hate it when I see the brand loyalty/bashing and crowing, especially outside the "Brand Wars" forum. And as usual, the "truth", when it exists (and IMO it usually doesn't, but that's another philosophical discussion), is somewhere in the middle. We hear so much about engines being better because they are inline, or "V", or that because an engine is used in "medium duty" trucks they are supposedly better in a "light" trucks, and all the rest… I say "Hog wash!" (to be polite about it) Different engines of different designs have different characteristics, end of story. Those different characteristics make them better suited to different things, and just because it's good in one category or a dozen does not make it "the best" by any means. Torque curve and peak (which of course relates to HP which is just a derivative of Torque) longevity, efficiency FOR A GIVEN APPLICATION, max RPM, vibration characteristics, noise, number of moving parts, ease of maintenance, cost/availability of parts, total weight and dimensions, after market support, all these things and more make a huge difference in which engines are right for which applications. Bottom line is Cummins Dodge, PS Ford, and DMax GM are ALL great motors, each one a bit better or worse here or there than the others, each has strengths, each has weaknesses/problems, and no single one of them can be claimed as "best" by anyone who considers the "facts" rationally. It may be "best" for you or a given application (like towing, drag racing, or even running a hydraulic pump 24-7), but I am certain (in my own mind) that even among "tow rigs", none is clearly superior to the others anywhere but in the minds of those who "drank the cool aid" or who feel the need to assert that "mine is bigger than yours!". Now, back to your previously scheduled rants…
I sure will. I actually like this site better than the others i post at. In here it seems one can be a bit more free and talk about any truck they wish(likes and dislike and have a friendly debate evry no and then) waytogo .
For the most part, with reliability anyway. An inline 6 design is more effecient. Almost all diesel engines are inline 6's except for a few from the different manufacturers. Many of which were inferior compared to similar sized inline 6's, if not complete flops. I can think of the old V8 cummins that was about a 10L engine, it's performance was fair to poor in OTR trucks compared to the other big and small cam engines that were inline 6's found in the same brand trucks. Even the V8 cummins wasn't popular in the Steiger tractors, many farmers prefer the L10 engine and 3306 Cats found in the same tractors. All the old detroit 2 stroke diesels, all were V8's. I will say the 3208 and international 444 has been a good engine. Torque is in fact torque, but where an engine makes it and how much of it is another thing... When was the last time you have heard of a T444 lasting 1 million miles? Like the ISB's are seeing on rare occurances. many ISB's and 6bt's see over 500K. True....I prefer the sound of a freight train myself....not so much the sound of a woopy cushon... oke: Like Joez said, that is because Ford cuts the best deals on fleet sales and by far has the fleet market monopolized because of that. Try being around ag all your life, I've seen so many small 4bt and 6bt engines in so many different types of machinery it's not even funny. There is even a thread in the Dodge section about all the stuff you can find the 4&6 banger in. Not once have I ever seen the T444 in anything besides a Ford pickup. Not to mention that Case equipment ONLY uses Cummins, while both New Holland and John Deere uses Cummins in many of their equipment. No international engines. They are not the engine of choice.....
Unless a 2001-2 Dodge Ram dually with the H.O. Cummins, 6spd manual, and a much better 3.55 geared truck is on hand..... opcorn:
I have to admit, i really enjoy posting in this forum. This is the first time i have ever been in a forum like this (diesel trucks), where the we can disagree without be disagreeable or rude to each other waytogo .
Agreed, many of the guys here have met each other personally, so we are a "closer" board than many others. Also we are still fairly small and that helps a lot.
