My truck came with a tow package on it with the round harness adapter in the rear bumper. It also came with a plug (Brake controller) with 4 wires IIRC coming from it. It plugs right underneath the dash.

My question is, I just need to buy the brake controller and hook the wires up to it, correct?

    Thanks,

    Jeff

That should do it... If it came with the plug, it should have the rest. Seems like I saw where some older Dodges(?) came without some of the wires, but I've never had a problem just installing the box with the plug on any of my trucks.

From what I've seen, you have to buy the controller and the matching harness that goes from the controller to the plug under the dash.

He already has the harness/plug from the controler to truck. New trucks (at least those with "tow package") generally come with them.

Does anyone have a brake controller preference or a preferred vendor?

    Thanks!

Out of four tow vehicles we have, three have a Voyager and one has a Prodigy. THe Voyager is very simple and seems to work fine. THe Prodigy is a little fancier and you can really dial the brakes in but I'm just going to use one of our Voyagers in my Ram.

As far as easy electronic brake controls, the Prodigy is tops. It can be had for just under $100, don't pay more!

If you want fancy, the Jordan and BrakeSmart are the two nicest units out there - great for the heavier loads.

When I hooked up my Jordan to my factory plug I did not use all the wires that came on the plug, just follow the BControllers instructions and it will be easy. Basically it's just a power, ground & signal so....
    Good Luck
