i had this happen on an old CRX honda and the alternater voltage regulater was busted and so at full throttle high rpms it would boost voltage to 19 volts and idle was at 12 volts. so i replaced the alternator and no more problems. it also made a whining noise and high peak voltage.

The voltage regulator is internal with these altenators. If you have a good small shop that specializes in altenators, starters, radiators...he could likely swap out the regulator for you and save a couple 20's.

It takes the right guy to do that for you though, the guy I use has a tiny shop and does the work himself. Otherwise, most will just want to sell you a complete altenator.

Well, I had the alternator checked and it is the culprit. Thank you once again for the replies!
