I wondered over from CK5. I had a question about mirrors and thought you guys might have some suggestions.

I picked up an 80 GMC 3500 flat bed dump truck. The bed is 8' wide and has 4' sides. The rear view mirrors are in pretty poor shape and since I'm getting ready to do body work and paint, I thought I'd look into some new mirrors. I need something that will stick out pretty far to see around the 8' wide bed, and they should be able to fold in for when trying to squeeze down a tight driveway.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Eric M.

Well, Western haulers are always a good option but they are so hideous! Then, there is the smaller version of the western hauler (anyone have a correct name?) that isn't nearly as ugly and does a good job getting around wide objects.

Then there is those cool 1/2ton looking mirrors that actually slide out. Canmore has them on his 90 V3500 and you can find them on CK5 if you don't know what I am talking about.

Here are pics of the Western haulers and the smaller version that I like a little better.

    Thanks,

I saw your post regarding the Western haulers while doing a search. They might do the trick, it isn't a pretty truck to start with, so, looks aren't that important. I've seen several pictures of Canmores truck, I was even thinking of buying it before he did! I'll have to take a closer look at the mirrors, maybe ask the previous owner (CamsK5) where he got them.

I have one of those Western Haulers in my garage. You mentioned they sell them at RV shops? Any place on line you know that has them? San Francisco isn't that big on RV outlets.

    Thanks,

    Thanks,

I dug up one Western Hauler, it looks like it'll work. I'll check out LMC for another. I have to take off for a few days. I'll post up if it isn't large enough to see around the 8' wide head board.

If I wanted to get real trick, is there any kind of electric mirrors available? I saw a few of you posted about such mirrors, but, there wasn't much info.

    Thanks,

    Eric M.

    This place has them

This is just a place I bookmarked because it is local. They have the electronic mirrors that you asked about. They may not be the cheapest place to buy, but it will give you an idea what they look like and prices.. good luck...Kong
