hey everyone my name is ben and i just joined towrig.com so that i can learn more about the wonderful world of diesel trucks.

i have a couple of questions for people that own the same kind of truck that i do... (2005 ram 3/4 ton 4x4 auto)

    1) do you all think that i can fit 315/70/17 tires without them rubbing in the front if i DO NOT get a leveling kit?

    2) i have installed the edge juice w/ attitude monitor... should i be worried about damaging my stock transmission w/ all of the added power?

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated thanks everyone!

    1) I plan on running 315's on mine with the stock wheels but I may level it first, I have heard that they will fit but may rub a little on the track bar when turning left?? I have a friend with a stock 04 with 315's and the H2 wheels and he says they don't rub but I'm not sure on the offset of those as compared to the stock Dodge wheels.

    2) You might want to try and stay at the lower levels without any mods to the tranny, hopefully some others with more knowlege in this area will chime in.

Steve (coloradok5) knows a lot more about tire clearance than I do.

What level do you run the Edge Comp on? The lower settings (like 1&2) shouldn't bother the tranny much. I'd watch my trans. temp guage closely in all conditions on level 3. I would think level 4&5 are out for two reasons.

    1. YOu didn't mention any other aftermarket parts. I would imagine the highest two levels drive the EGT's up too far anyway..??..

    2. Level 4&5 should really put the hurt to the tranny, the 48RE doesn't like that much power over stock, even 80HP is pushing it (80HP is level 3 IIRC)

I would venture to say using any of the setting above level two or so will probably remove a certain amount of life from the tranny. Level three may not be enough to completely shutter it and basically over power it like the higher settings, but it may inflict some long term injuries.

Honestly, if it was me I'd go ahead and get an aftermarket convert and valve bofy from ATS or DTT and get it installed while your tranny is still low miles. This improvement is said to greatly improve driveability due to a more effecient tranny and obviously allow you to use basically any setting you want without hurting the tranny.

Just out of curiousity, what do your EGT's get up to on level 3? You should probably be ok for now. I would seriously consider the valve body and TC upgrade though. waytogo

hmm i know that the egt doesnt get too much above 1100 (because the chip will backdown fuel if it does). im sure if i disabled the backdown feature it would get pretty hot... im gonna drive to simi today so i will get back to you on that

How do you like the fancy monitor? I originally wanted triple guages but am now liking the optional monitor more than I used to...

I really like the attitude monitor... at first i wanted gauges but then i read up on the attitude and i decided to get it because it has built in saftey features that help protect your truck. You can tell it to defuel the motor when egts get too high (or whereever you set it). likewise with turbo boost. Also there are more then just 3 things that you can gauge. the attitude moniter will tell you a lot more then gauges will including boost, egt, intake temp, barometric pressure, trans lockup, throttle position, clutch slipage (you can actually set to defuel if the clutch starts to slip), actual speed (if you have larger tires) and there are more that i cant remember off the top of my head. Im really glad that i got the attitude monitor simply becuase of the saftey features that it includes... it just makes me feel safer about all the added power waytogo

oh by the way... i got on the freeway earlier in level 3 and my egt went right up to 1100 (where i set the limiter) at which point the monitor defueled the motor to prevent any higher temps... however, if i disabled the backdown feature im sure it would climb right up to around 1300 or so :doah:
