Who has Satelite radio in their rigs, who do you have and how do you like it? Worth the small monthly cost?

I have XM in my truck. had it in my Jeep for about a year and a half but now the truck is my DD so I put it in there. It is definatley worth it for me. I drive alot and I HATE radio commercials. I get clear reception everywhere and there are so many channels there is always something good on. It is especially useful on the long trips to go wheelin.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, how much is the service per month and who did you go with?

I'm also interested. No commercials at all? What kind of radio stations? What kind of equipment do you have to buy?

I just went and bought a cheap MP3 player. It was like $71 and holds 8 hours of music. I have several gigs of (legal) MP3s so I always know I'm gonna hear something I like. It's an alternative to a subscription radio.

Ive got Service through XM. They actually just upped the cost to 12.95 a month so now it is the Same as Sirius. None of the Music stations have commercials but the talk/comedy/news/etc channels do. the music stations have DJs and stuff but they never talk for more than like 30sec. Here is their website with all of the channel listings. http://www.xmradio.com/ When I got mine the Equipment was like $150 but Ive seen it on sale at Best Buy for like $50 in the last few months. I love my XM. I dont know if it would be too worth it if I didnt spend alot of time in my truck.

Good question Steve, I was just looking at getting Sirius when Howard Stern goes off Free Radio. Best Buy has some good deals on the add on units right now. Looks like you can get a decent model with all the required connections for around $100. Then the service you have to buy at least one year at a time which is like $129 IIRC.

The older I get the more I hate regular radio and all the loud obnoxious DJ's and Commercials :doah:

My Silverado came with it & a 3mos free to start...I never renewed it.

It was neat to have all thoes channels, kinda like cable TV. You have several catagories including porn(not free xtra, and I don't know why you would want to listen to porn while driving???????). Lots of music veriety to choose from. My rig also has a 6disc CD changer and I have LOTS of Cds so I mostly listend to my CDs and that is the main reason I did not renew the XM or Onstar. Someday I may start it up again...
The stations are not limited so some of the songs that have swearing they don't filter out the cuss words... If you like comedy, politics, talk radio then go for it..heck there is even Disney station.

Onstar was neat for the built in cell phone, never knew my rig was gonna come with a phone number but it did. The cell phone plays over the stero speakers and has voice commands, actually it's 100% voice as there is no actuall phone...I let this expire also...but with a phone call away I can turn it all on again if I choose (moab Trip waytogo )

"hello, this is onstar. There has been a holdup at a local bank and the suspects fled in a vehicle identical to yours so we are shutting you down until the police can come and verify you"

I had sirius. I loved it. I cancelled the credit card that was being billed automatically for it, and forgot to change cards. I still havent gotten around to it, but honestly, I don't miss having it that much. In other words, Im not sure it was really worth the 12 bucks a month for me.

I just got XM and like it so far, mostly listen to radio right and throw in some radio left when I need a good laugh... Then it's off to the 80's station and some 60's stations then over to some 90's... For the 3 weeks I've had it I like it. waytogo

I’ve had XM since Christmas and have no real complaints. We took our first “long” trip over Memorial weekend and loved the fact I sat in the truck for 8 hours without having to fish for local stations every hour or so.

I have the Sirius Streamer. Its pretty cool! We made sure we got the streamer because it's portable. Just a cig. lighter plug, a magnetic mount antenna and then tune the truck's radio station to 88.1 or 88.3 and off we go. It's nice being able to listen to the same station on a 400 mile trip through the mountains with no static or commercials. We've used it in like 7 different vehicles (friends, family) since we got it in June.

    XM in my truck

I drove about 3500 miles this week, I was in the Smokey Mts early in the week and the Poconos late in the week. XM radio is great for me.
In the last eleven hour stretch, I listened to the ESPN college football preview, part of several Big Ten games, NASCAR pre-race, the Busch race and on the last 3 hour stretch my favorite hits from the 60's.
With XM, I do miss the NFL but if I had Sirus, I would miss Nascar more.
Well worth the money for me.

I got XM radio a couple of months ago and love it. I have not listened to regular radio since. Was really nice on long trips to Southern UT, AZ and Vegas this summer. Three seperate trips.
I just figure the monthly fee to be the cost of a CD a month and well worth every penny.

I have sirus that came with the truck, cool that they have NFL, I didn't realize that XM doesn't, I would have to switch otherwise.

Just a hint for anyone out there that has a friend with XM or Sirius. The family plan shared betweenj two people is much cheaper. I pay around $7.00/month(instead of the normal $12.something) to my brother, and I think that is well worth it.
