Where do you store your chains/straps/etc on your trailer when not using it? Steel box on the front? I need to add something to mine for this, if I leave the stuff laying in the chain box up front it will be gone in a few days.

As soon as I come across the steel I plan on making a small box to put in the chain tray up front. It won’t be very wide but I figure it’ll be enough for all the tie down junk. I’d love to put something bigger on the deck but I only have 20’ to play with so that won’t workey.

In the shed when at the house, in the cab of the tow rig when out.

the front of my gooseneck has a chain tray that i put my chocks on with some scrap treated 2x4 sections. i also have a few ammo cans with chains in them up front. i have a trailer side box bolted into the bed of my dodge thati keep my flares, tools, Med kit, Fire Extinguisher and some blankets and food in. it also has my tie down straps and a couple more chains in it. ammo boxes are great as they are weather tight. some WD-40 as the chains go in and then close them up. works great

We were given one aluminum side box for a PU and we were able to mount that on the front of the GN where the frame comes up. There was enough space so that the front of the box (facing toward the rear) was even with the vertical frame rails. We bolted the lip that would sit on the P/U bedrails to the frame and welded supports for the back side of the box so it would not only be held by the bolts...

I second the ammo cans. You can get them in all kinds of sizes, they're easy to find, easy to mount, easily weld padlock hasps on them, and the best thing is they are cheap! I have an old can that was used for 25mm cannon rounds and half a dozen or so small-arms cans, and I love 'em, keeps all the dirt off my junk at the beach.

This is the big can that I have, would be great for chains and straps:

Hey Burt, your wife said on Sunday that you were trying to talk her into buying a trailer. You might want to tell her that you already did! :doah: :stir:

    Chain & Binder Storage

Hey Willyswanter: What we have done on our trailers is close off the triangle area of the tongue. We use expanded metal for the bottom so there is no traped water, we then use plate across the top of the tounge to close it off. The bulkhead of the trailer is closed at the back and we cross a channel that is the same size of the tongue channel to close off the front.Weld in place a piece of flat stock upright with a hole drilled to the cross channel for the lock and then pierce a slot thur the plate that crosses top on of the tongue to lock the newly formed chain well.

Delta makes a real nice aluminum toolbox that fits very well on the triangular tongue section of bumper pull trailers. Its lockable and holds tons of straps, chains, and other towing equipment and looks great since its aluminum diamond plate.
