ive got a 2000 dodge durango r.t. the manual says its good up to 7,xxx lbs max trailor weight. its going to be towing my 88 chevy wheeler which is lighter then stock. im planing on getting a prodigy brake controller, a trans cooler and ive already upgraded the front brakes (need to replce the rears and fluid). thing is, since its an r/t and made for handling (still hauls more then the other models for the most part) im going to be lowering it 3 inches. 2 inch block and one inch shackle. stock springs, firmer shocks thicker sway bars etc. would airbags be a good investment? maybe the airlift ride control or super duty air-spring systems? planing on also getting a sway control and weight distributing hitch set up just to be safe. does this sound like a good/safe set up?
for what its worth the durango is awd/5.9l v8/ 9 1/4? rear axle w/ 3.92 gears and an lsd.

just trying to figure out what combo would work and be the safest without getting to expensive.

doing a little research on summit's website and i think i like the firestone ride-rite leveling system over the air lift ride control(only ones offered for my vehicle) due to the way they mount. id rather have them mount to the axle or over the axle as opposed to the leaf spring on either side of the axle.

I've used the Roadmaster Active Suspension system on a 1/2ton before with good results.

How much is the total trailered weight going to be?

Where will you be towing most of your traveling?

Those are the two most important questions.

You can do a lot with a 1/2ton on a 70* day going across a flat desert, compared to pulling hills in the ice and snow on a stormy day.

mostly around michigan and possibly a few trips to the neighboring states but nothing cross country. elevation doesnt really change all that much from what ive noticed just driving around. a few small hills here and there but nothing special. does the roadactive setup have any adverse effects on handling? the durango is going to kind of pull double duty for a while and a tow rig and a fun to drive sport suv.

It stiffens the rear suspension up enough to notice it not as "squishy" as before.
