I am wanting to figure out what is going on while the turbo/engine is still under warranty. When going to Montana a few weeks ago I noticed for the first time that I am getting a lot of turbo surge and I hope that I am diagnosing it properly. Mods: AFE drop in filter in stock air box AFE Torque tube No cat, 4" good muffler I was pulling about 9K up some pretty serious grades trying to hold 75mph on cruise. Was getting surge at about 25-30 lbs of boost and was surging about 5-7lbs on the needle. What is the next step? Put the stock intake tube back on and take it to the dealer or will the torque tube matter, also will it matter that my pyro probe is drilled into the exhaust manifold? TIA Tyson
I'd take the tube off and put the stock one back and see what they say. I have never heard of turbo surge before but I'd probably have it checked out if you don't think it feels right. They should have no problem with your Pyro at all. You aren't running a box or anything.
I had turbo surge pulling a sled trailer up the mountain and forget was in 5th gear and started up another grade at only 1000 rmp or so and it started surging. Dropped gears and was good. Dunno if that relates to you.
what controls the wastegate, and and what boost does it open? not up to snuff o nthe new dodges to know figures off hand, but almost sounded like you have a waste gate opeing at shutting if thats near max boost numbers.
