 If your sysytem was originally designed with a wastegate you need to keep it functional. yes you can change the spring stiffness to add more boost time but generally speaking you want to leave that sucker alone. ask how many import tuner gurus have blown thier motors from playing with the wastegates.

I am not personally a huge fan of the turnbuckel idea. I have heard mention of a J-hook with a heavier spring to help boost more but still have a functional wastegate at a higher PSI. I think TST & BD sell the J-hooks.

If you do run the turnbuckle I would as that a boost gauge is pretty much required. If you boost your motor to hard you can blow the headgasket out. That is not a cheap or easy fix that will cost some big $$$.

The problem with overboosting like that is 2 fold.

First - you are unable to control the amount of boost you produce except thru the throttle. And I am very sure with a boost gauge you will be good enough to back off the throttle when the gauge reads 35 psi or more, right?
    Yeah, right.

Anything aboe 45psi and you run the risk of blowing the head gasket out. head studs will help hold more boost, but unless you are running twins 50 psi is all you'll ever need if it sis from the right turbo.

Second - Heat. Anything compressed gets heated up. Yes, you have an intercooler, but how much heat can it remove? Anything over about 35psi and you make more heat than the extra psi is worth. Its called the point of diminishing gains. The gains the psi makes are offset by the heat. Also, this can cause intercooler failures due to excessive heat input. This also will lead to excessive EGTS and that opens a whole new window of possibilities. Head gasket (covered that), valve seat failure, piston failure, valve erosion, ect.

Bottom line - Fuel is cheap. Air is the expensive part. if you want to play, you have to pay. Over a few extra psi of boost, on an automatic even more so, YOU NEED AN UPGRADED TURBO!!!! Not a sales pitch, just a fact of diesel life.
