How do you like it? I haven't hauled or towed anything with mine yet, but I've used my neighbor's K3500 quite a bit and it had plenty of power for the flat Indiana terrain. Does anybody else notice a fair amount of knocking when the engine is idling? Is this the "piston slap" issue everyone talks about? I also hear some funny noises when accelerating from a low RPM. I also seem to have a whine similar to when you're low on PS fluid when I start it in the cold. Also runs a little rough on cold startup. Are these all common problems? I'm going to talk to the dealer when it's in for service next just to see if anything's out of order. Overall I'm very pleased though.waytogo
I dont have one, but my cousin recently bought one strictly to tow her horse trailer. She wanted a D-max, but the 6.0 was way to cheap to pass up. Anyway, hers suffers from piston slap, and it does sound like a light knocking. Not quite a rod knock, and not quite a valve tick, in between there. The dealer told her its normal . Hers tows her horse trailer pretty good, but it doenst like mountains or real long grades. Granted this is roughly a 28' trailer that weighs about 9K pounds, so its not a small load. Overall shes happy with it, tows way better than her old small block dodge ever did. Congrats on the new truckwaytogo
Oh god, are they still trying to claim that piston slap is normal? Do some searching on that. Several people have torn down 40-50k blocks (IIRC) and found severe scoring in the cylinders and piston skirts. And I believe (not something I really paid much attention to) they forced GM to replace the motors and there was a fair bit of stink over it. This is remembering stuff I read a year or more ago that did not apply to me, so my memory may be faulty.
Yup, they still are. I cant believe their havent been major lawsuits yet over it to be honest. She knows all about it and is prepared for the worst. The problem is the dealerships all treat her like a typical woman, who doenst know much.
i have the 6.0 it hauls my rig around pretty good, but it could use more power. http://www.texas4x4.org/gallery/album246/DSC01254_1 d-max may be in the future though.waytogo
I have a 6.0, has plenty of power for towing my blazer. My dad has an '05 dmax thats stock and was following me this weekend towing his blazer and me towing mine. He has probably 1500 more lbs that I did in wieght, but I had no problem staying with him. There are a couple pretty good climbs on the way to where we went this weekend and my 6.0 would pull it up the grades as fast as I wanted to go. Im very impressed with it, considering it only has 380 ft/lbs of tq and my dad's has 605 ft/lbs and I can stay right with it.
I have one, went looking for a D max but when it cost 45,000 and my truck cost 23,000 i couldnt pass it up, going to have a new trailer delivered this month, hopefully it wont bite me in the backside:doah:
i have one I have a 6.0 2500hd and it tows like a lot of horses. i have towed bobcats, tons of rock/blocks, 3 4-wheelers up into west virginia mountains in snow and ice. Other than the probs with the truck being a lemon , i have no probs towing. i like the ride, but will not buy another and go to a ford super duty. bruce
I have an 01 2500 HD and love my truck it has the 6.0 in it but I don't haul anything except my two ATVs. the knock when its cold is kind of annoying but with 80,000 miles on it i gave up worrying about it. the only problem I had with it soo far is the transmition went out at 35,00 miles the overdrive gear blew completey out in it.
Hi Jeff, being that I have to drive by and see your rig almost everyday :doah: have you thought about getting some 03-05 alum take off wheels for your truck to update it a bit, got mine at Performance wheel and tire off of Santa fee. They look real good on that body style. waytogo
