I don't think anyone is slamming the 48RE. Were looking ahead to wants going to eventually be in the 4500 and 5500. The 48RE will not make it in that application. The Aisin transmission A-581 (I think) has a torque imput limit of 650 ftlbs. I'm not sure what the imput limit is with the Dodge Version or if its the 581 with a dodge RE number on it. (See Aisan Web Site)

I've read, when the larger trucks come out, a Automatic Transmission will be used to carry what ever the torque rating is from the 6.7. It will be one that is currently being used by Freighliner in their MDT line of trucks.

Here's a link for a little more info. Its been up before on serveral sites.

Have you just found your way out of a cave?rotfl Just kidding. While the 47 and 48RE trans are decent units, they lack some strength in stock form. They seem to be fine under stock power and factory reccommended towing and what not, but they can't take chips and lots of heavy towing. Is this a big deal? No, you can build a nice aftermarket 47/8 RE, I love mine. It's just that look at the factory Allison and Torqueshift. The Cummins is the motor that could benifet to an extra gear or two the most out of the big three motors and it's still got a 4spd behind it.
